The Cowboys continue to play kick-the-can with contracts, pushing cap money into the future for short term relief.

Via Todd Archer of ESPN.com, veteran tight end Jason Witten is the third one in the last week, shuffling some base salary into signing bonus to create $2.75 million in cap space now.

It doesn’t change the amount of money going into Witten’s pocket, with $5.5 million of his $6.5 million salary turned into a bonus. He’s signed through the 2017 season, when he’s scheduled to make $7.4 million.

They’ve also restructured deals for cornerback Orlando Scandrick and linebacker Sean Lee in the last week, after re-doing the deals of left tackle Tyron Smith and defensive tackle Tyrone Crawford earlier this offseason.

It could eventually become a burden, but with the salary cap rising precipitously each season, it’s a chance they’re willing to take.
