Elway wants Siemian to relax, “Just go out and play”

DENVER, CO - AUGUST 20: Quarterback Trevor Siemian of the Denver Broncos smiles as he walks on the field before a preseason NFL game against the San Francisco 49ers at Sports Authority Field at Mile High on August 20, 2016 in Denver, Colorado. (Photo by Dustin Bradford/Getty Images) Getty Images

A General Manager usually doesn’t give one-on-one coaching to a starting quarterback, but the situation in Denver, where the G.M. is a Hall of Fame quarterback and the quarterback has never thrown a pass in the NFL, is unusual.

So Broncos G.M. John Elway had a sit-down with quarterback Trevor Siemian. Sal Paolantonio of ESPN reports that Elway wanted Siemian to know that he should be relaxed and confident heading into the game.

“Just go out and play,” Elway said. “Don’t worry about making mistakes. Don’t worry about turnovers. You’re going to make mistakes. But just bounce back.”

Elway, of course, spent a first-round draft pick on quarterback Paxton Lynch, which strongly suggests that Elway doesn’t see Siemian as the long-term answer in Denver. Siemian has been told not to look over his shoulder, but the reality of the NFL is that a first-round quarterback is going to start eventually.

For now, however, Elway and coach Gary Kubiak thinks Siemian gives them the best chance to win. And they want Siemian to know they’re confident in him, at least for tonight against the Panthers.

From defending SB Champs to “…the quarterback has never thrown a pass in the NFL”

Going to be a long season in Denver.

“Trevor, the whole world knows that you were not supposed to be starting for the Denver Broncos at any point this season, so just try to relax.”, Said John Elway.

Carolina’s defense is nasty, and they’ll be angry and hungry. That’s a tough first assignment for any QB. But Siemian has faced the likes of Ohio State and Michigan State, teams that featured numerous NFL defensive players, while Trevor had to battle with the inferior talent that played for Northwestern. His O-line and receivers were no match for the guys they faced, but he played very well against them. He just has to stay healthy and he’ll be fine.

It’s going to be so sweet to watch the Broncos win the division and make yet another deep playoff run, in spite of all the hater wishful thinking.

Elway: “hey kid, just start using PED’s like I did.
We are in the back pocket of the NFL, been cheating for years, eazy peazy!”

The Broncos were horrible at QB last year and still won the Super Bowl. All this kid needs to do is not screw up. The rest of the team will do what it takes to win games.

Tonight? Maybe they don’t win tonight and maybe they do. That’s only because the Panthers are a good team, too.

You can hate a team without getting stupid about them. Both these teams are still really good.

Trevor will be just fine; Cam is who should be concerned as the newest Lombardi Trophy’s presence will have everybody lubed up to provide him with some fresh decisions to swan dive on his fumbles. Make no mistake haters, the Bronco’s D is going to wreak havoc for the prime time audience in their house tonight!

How long before Denver fans admit Elway screwed up by letting Osweiler walk in free agency? Osweiler played very given his offensive line was made up of a rookie, a has been, and a backup. Oh, and his receivers were dropping passes left and right. Despite all of that, he went 5-2. But Elway lets him go and decide to start his backup. What a mess.

This is not going to turn out well for the Bronco offense. I think Demvers defense is going to be on the field most of the game.
    Never took one NFL snap
    Never threw one NFL pass
    Opening game of the season
    QB for defending SB champs
    8 bazzilion people watching
22 bazzilion cameras focused on him
    Full house
Never had grown , well trained athletes yelling at him they want to dismember his arms and legs
An NFL legend telling me to tune things out
Following the act of one of the greatest QBs of all time
No. I can’t see why the kid would be nervous, nothing to worry about
Pot is legal in Colorado. Elway better have a Bong the size of a garbage can full of pot for this kid to toke on starting, oh, right now.

“Yet another deep playoff run”…? How far in the past are you living? Well… I guess if it’s all you’ve got, you got to go with it. How long has it been since the raiders have won anything…? Loooooooooong Time!
    Superbowl 50 Baby!!!!

Elway: “Hey listen buddy, I know you played small time college ball at Northwestern, barely got drafted and spent last season as our No. 3 QB, but trust me you got this. Don’t worry that in college you never even completed 60% of your passes and had a career TD-to-INT ratio of 27-24…oh wait…we are so screwed.”

Siemian will be bench after 4 games and they’ll turn it over to the rookie.

Good luck with that Denver, have fun scrapping together a 7-9 season.

Translation: We all think you suck so there is no pressure to perform. The defense can carry us to 10 wins.

  29. bensstinkyfingers says: Sep 8, 2016 12:34 PM

Elway already knows Semenian has loads of talent, he just is trying to get his young Qb pumped up for his debut. Hopefully he performs well under the pressure of filling Peyton’s shoes, or else Elway may end up with egg on his face.

Listened to Mike & Mike on ESPN radio this morning. They spent a lot of time slobbering all over Elway for putting together the greatest roster, 1-53, that any team has ever assembled. Then they both picked us to win tonight.

The Broncos are good. The starting defense is scary good. But they lost some depth in free agency, and the Panthers have a significantly better roster 1-53 than they did last year with Kelvin Benjamin back, more depth on the D-line and – even though 2 rookies will start – better DBs than last year with all those old men that started the Super Bowl.

All the Cam Hatred after the Super Bowl will fuel him, just like it did while he was being proven innocent of wrongdoing at Auburn. The continual insistence by most fans and pundits that last year was smoke & mirrors gives us the “disrespect” card every team wants to use.

The rookie QB (still consider Siemian a rookie) won’t be ready for this. We’re gonna come out smokin’ tonight.

    Panthers 27
    Broncos 10
