The Jaguars have higher expectations this season than they’ve had in quite a while, but they may be starting the year without one of their starting defensive ends on the field.
The Jaguars announced on Thursday that Jared Odrick has been placed in the concussion protocol. The team says Odrick was “immediately removed” from practice on Wednesday after taking a shot to the jaw and was placed in the protocol after being evaluated by the team’s medical staff.
Odrick is not practicing on Thursday, but the team says he has been cleared to do conditioning work and observe from the field. Those are steps that would not be allowed if he hadn’t passed through some of the early tests in the protocol and Hays Carlyon of the Florida Times Union reports that Odrick will be allowed to speak to reporters.
Odrick started every game for Jacksonville last season. Tyson Alualu would likely get the call against the Packers if Odrick is not cleared in time to play.
