49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick said last week that he would donate the first $1 million he makes this season to community organizations as part of an effort to improve the issues that led to his decision not to stand for the national anthem and “show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color.”

Kaepernick’s team will also reportedly be making a donation of the same size in the near future.

Jim Trotter of ESPN reports that the 49ers have pledged to donate $1 million to a pair of groups in the Bay Area. The donation is designed to “address various social inequities.” Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports the groups are the Silicon Valley Community Foundation and the San Francisco Foundation.

Per their website the Silicon Valley Community Foundation works to provide “leadership, expertise and capital to help address social issues in our region” by commissioning research, conducting public discussions, advocating on issues and creating initiatives with partner organizations. The San Francisco Foundation says it aims to be “a catalyst for change to build strong communities, foster civic leadership, and promote philanthropy” and that “our challenge is to ensure that everyone can thrive and reach their full potential.”
