Report: Mets signing Tim Tebow to minor league deal

Tim Tebow has signed a minor league contract with the New York Mets but Mike Florio is pretty confident that the former NFL QB won't make it to the majors.

Before they moved to the swamps of Jersey, the Jets used to share Shea Stadium with the Mets but the two teams never shared any players.

Tim Tebow may be the man to change that. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Tebow, who spent one year as a punt protector and backup quarterback with the Jets, will sign a minor league contract with the Mets.

Tebow recently worked out for major league teams as part of his quest to switch from the gridiron to the diamond. Reviews were that Tebow was predictably raw as a player, but that he showed power as a hitter that the Mets are apparently willing to try to harness into something that could help Tebow’s bid for a second life in professional sports.

The plan to develop that power and the rest of his game will likely start with a run in an instructional league this winter before Tebow goes to spring training and then to a minor league team next year. There will likely be some marketing opportunities and perhaps some rain delay entertainment along the way as Tebow tries to counter F. Scott Fitzgerald’s contention about the lack of second acts in American lives.
