Roethlisberger tells Antonio Brown not to let Josh Norman get in his head

Ben Roethlisberger, Antonio Brown AP

The Steelers open the season in Washington on Monday night, where one of the NFL’s best cornerbacks, Josh Norman, will be responsible for covering one of the NFL’s best receivers, Antonio Brown.

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger likes Brown’s chances of matching up well physically with Norman, but Roethlisberger said he’s going to talk to Brown about not letting Norman get a psychological edge.

“The big thing for both — they might try to play mind games with each other — I’ll talk to my guy and make sure he keeps a level head and just plays football,” Roethlisberger said.

Norman got in the head of Odell Beckham last season, but on Monday night Roethlisberger thinks Brown can get the better of the matchup — as long as Roethlisberger can get him the ball.

“AB is one of the best in the business, and so is Josh, so I think it’s a prime-time matchup,” Roethlisberger said. “Everyone will tune in to see that matchup. I think it’ll come down to if AB’s quarterback is good enough to get him the ball when he needs to.”

I would be shocked if brown didn’t have his way with this clown. The biggest proof that this guy is overrated is that a smart franchise in Carolina let him go and Snyder signed him for way to much money. The only way brown doesn’t go off is if the redskins get pressure or they double team him.

Since Antonio Brown is the best wide receiver in the NFL, I’m pretty sure Brown is in Norman’s head. This is the game within the game, a match up of two of the NFL’s best at their positions. Can’t wait until kick off!

    Go Steelers!

anxious for the season to start so Norman can get exposed on a weekly basis.

Antonio’s state line will read something like 9 receptions, 125 yds, 2 td. book it

AB has been in this league long enough. He’ll be ready. Norman is going to get slaughtered in front of his own fans. At least he’ll still have his part time job with Fox Sports…

  6. n0hopeleft says: Sep 8, 2016 6:34 AM

The refs allowed Norman to get away with a ton last year. Won’t happen again this year. AB and OBJ are going to embarrass this POS.

Just let the ladies claw each others eyes out already. My nickel is on Josh Norman.

Josh Norman is great but Antonio Brown is unstoppable.

  11. httr73 says: Sep 8, 2016 8:27 AM

Clearly, he didn’t see Norman’s comments yesterday specifically about him and AB.

  12. 69goatboy says: Sep 8, 2016 8:59 AM

Norman will try (as he should, it’s all parts of the game), but I think AB has a better head on his shoulders than Mr. Diva (OBJ).

  13. nhpats says: Sep 8, 2016 9:17 AM

why should Antonio worry….he is going to toast Josh Norman….and it will be ugly….

I’m a skins fan, and this is probably the toughest start that Norman could have. It’ll be interesting to see how he does. I think AB will have a decent night though

With these rules nobody can stop AB. Well maybe Landry Jones. LOL!

Ahhh, Joey Porter? did you forget how the refs couldn’t find their way to a flag when Porter stayed on the field illegally but flagged a Cincy player instead?

No one in Pittsburg should be whining about anything that happened last season except that BS play where Manning should have been called down in the backfield.

What about the other match up guys???? Seems like nobody wants to talk about D Jax against a suspect Steeler secondary…..Im sure D Jax will have his way!!!!!

  21. justintuckrule says: Sep 8, 2016 10:34 AM

Not for nothing but brown will finally get a taste of what Odell went through last year. Not talking about Norman. I’m talking about being the ONLY player on the offense who doesn’t totally suck. Pitts other options are all hurt or suspended. Let’s see if AB can do what Odell does. Produce when all 11 defenders are up your backside.

  25. officialgame says: Sep 8, 2016 11:17 AM

Guys like Norman who talk trash have become the new normal for DB’s. The reality is he needs to be taught a hard lesson and the officials can’t let him get away with murder. In the old days you would run a sweep and let a pulling guard take him out.

  26. mgolden62 says: Sep 8, 2016 11:24 AM

AB is way too level headed to fall in that trap. He may be a showman but he isn’t a classless idiot diva……I’m guessing business will be booming!!!!

The last two good teams AB played against last year were the Broncos (regular season) and the Bengals (post season).

He had 16 catches for 189 yards against the Broncos, and 7 catches for 119 yards against the Bengals.

New normal???? Are you new to football? DBs and WRs have been the biggest divas for decades. Heck, even Deion Sanders was a master trash talker.

  29. mysterytonite says: Sep 8, 2016 11:28 AM

First off, I hate the Steelers with every fiber in my body. Having said that, it’s laughable that this is even a story. Brown is on such a different level than maybe any player in the league right now. Norman got in Odell’s head last year because his ego couldn’t stand being held in check. He was also angry at the fact when he did win against him he couldn’t finish (dropped long td.) AB on the other hand only wants to do one thing and that is win. As Billy Hoyle once said you,d rather look good and lose than look bad and win. When Brown walks on that field he is all business and he doesn’t need his qb to remind him of this. I will say this although it pains me to but Brown is the best player in the game now and it really isn’t close. Norman maybe the best CB in the game (I don’t believe so) but that really means little at this point. Brown will have his way with this fool.

Big Ben is a woman abuser – let’s get that out there.

Second, the Redskins have a much better secondary this year than last year and will have more of a pass rush.

If I were Big Ben, I’d make sure my insurance policy is current. He’ll need it because he will be hit often and hard. There is no love lost between these two teams and the Redskins owe the Rusty Nails.

  31. themattstapiece says: Sep 8, 2016 12:17 PM

AB will produce, he’ll beat Norman at least here and there (if not have a huge night). But if he gets 100 yards and no touchdowns in a loss I’m sure Norman and the ‘Skins will take it, and fans on either side of the aisle will say that their guy clearly got the better of the match up.

It’s going to be a great match up and a treat to watch two elite players go at it.

Let’s not overlook the broader match up between the ‘Skins and Steelers either. The ‘Skins passing game may well be torching Pittsburgh en route to a high-scoring shootout.

AB won’t lose his cool because he isn’t a child. Also, if you read Norman’s comments earlier this week, he has a ton of respect for Big Ben and AB and will treat them accordingly.

  32. kneedragr says: Sep 8, 2016 12:19 PM

Norman gets beaten and exposed badly if he is in man coverage the entire game against Brown. This is coming from a Redskins fan.

I imagine if the skins are dumb enough to run that scheme they will abandon it when down 14pts in the 1st quarter and just double him the rest of the game.

  33. grumpyoleman says: Sep 8, 2016 12:46 PM

Redskins will win this one at home. The Redskins should be a sleeper pick this year depending on their QB play.

Would those yds against bad teams include the 189 he put up in Denver last year? Or the 970 he posted overall last year when playing against top 12 D’s? Of course half of his yards are also coming against bad teams as well but that;s because there are only just so many good ones.
I am a Giants guy but AB is as good as it gets right now. Put aside the fanboy from time to time and you might get to enjoy some greatness when you see it.

  35. pittsburghdamned says: Sep 8, 2016 6:13 PM

Great ones don’t get suddenly released by a team. He will fade into obscurity before season’s end.

  36. Jax4 says: Sep 8, 2016 6:52 PM

Norman may not be covering him most of the time. It will probably be Breeland.

  37. beltwaytd says: Sep 9, 2016 3:20 PM

How about we talk about our superior receiving corps as a whole against the Pittsburgh secondary…is that a non story? Not to mention…our superior secondary as a whole against one guy… well… I guess we wont look into it.

  38. John Harbaugh Is A Sad Whiney Middle Aged Woman says: Sep 9, 2016 4:21 PM

Non story really. AB > Josh Norman, it’s not even a question.

@Mo Pro Babble, are you talking about when Joey Porter went over to check on the injured Steeler and was in the midst of about the ENTIRE Bengals coaching staff? Why should he have gotten a flag and not the entire Bengals coaching staff? Enjoy another year of frustration and disappointment to go with your entire cities lack of class.
