Gronkowski officially out for Sunday

DENVER, CO - JANUARY 24: Rob Gronkowski #87 of the New England Patriots warms up prior to the AFC Championship game against the Denver Broncos at Sports Authority Field at Mile High on January 24, 2016 in Denver, Colorado. (Photo by Justin Edmonds/Getty Images) Getty Images

The Patriots won’t have two of their top offensive weapons on Sunday night against the Cardinals, for very different reasons.

Quarterback Tom Brady will miss the game due to his #DeflateGate suspension. Tight end Rob Gronkowski will miss the game due to a hamstring injury.

The Patriots have announced that Gronkowski has been officially downgraded to out after not accompanying the team to Arizona. Also out, because they didn’t travel, are tackle Nate Solder and guard Jonathan Cooper.

Gronkowski suffered a hamstring injury in joint practices against the Bears on August 15. He recently described himself as “week-to-week” due to the injury.

His absence means that tight end Martellus Bennett will slide into the No. 1 spot for his regular-season debut as a Patriot. Bennett could get more chances in that capacity if it takes more weeks for Gronkowski’s injury to heal.

If Gronkowski doesn’t rest the injury totally and completely until it heals, the hamstring could be an issue all year long.

    Amazing player. Total stud.

Coach and Gronk make Brady look good. He’s really just a system QB.

Guess most of the Patriots are just gonna mail in the first four games.

It’s week 1, VS an NFC team. Good decision. NFL season is a grind, no need to pull a soft tissue injury in September.

Sucks he won’t play though, he’s fun to watch and I wanted to see how he performed with Jimmy G

  4. MichaelEdits says: Sep 9, 2016 10:20 PM

He can party with Tom Brady.

  5. finfansince68 says: Sep 9, 2016 10:22 PM

    Gronk is a Beast – he’d play with 2 broken legs ! –
but his Dad makes ALL the decisions concerning whether he’d play or not – NOT Bill Belichick
Gordy Gronkowski is firmly in control of Robs future!
Plus I heard Martellus is supposed be pretty good too?

I’m Rob Gronkowski and when I am not acting like a drunken 15 year old I am missing lots and lots of football games yet I am still treated like a golden idol.”

Why risk gronk if you don’t have Brady? Just make it a 12 game season and go 8-4 into the playoffs healthy. Jimmy G can beat 2 out of their first 4

    No excuses Carson.

Keep him rested until Sunday night against Seattle.

The real season doesn’t start for NE until January anyways.

The thing with hammies is, they own your sorry butt until they heal. And BEYOND! Haha.

It is what it is. Time wounds all heels. Gronk is a freak of nature but he’s not built for the long haul, probably, and I just mean it’s hard to picture him playing at say 35. Too BIG.

So heal up big fella…. Keep banging hot freaky babes on boats for the rest of us… And hopefully lose to the Seahawks in the Super Bowl!

Pats should hold back half the team. Take a mulligan. Start off good next week. Of course some of you losers on here would call that cheating and so would the nfl. Don’t worry, unless you’re the Jets giants Broncos colts… your team is next at some point.

Who knows if this is Gronk’s hamstring or Gronk’s contract, frankly I’m more worried about the offensive line. Garoppolo is starting w/ an assembly of undrafted and drafted rookies to protect him.
No Vollmer, no Solder… ? No Dion Lewis to dump off to…
If this kid gets pancaked on Sunday in prime time after getting half the snaps he should have in the pre-season with this motley crew of a line to protect him, Gronk will just be one of many reasons.

I think Garoppolo can play, hope he lives to show it.

They should also rest Edelman and the entire 1st string of players for this game.

Treat the game like another Preseason game and play 3rd string and practice squad to stick it to the NFL on Sunday night.

Put the Number 12 on everyone’s jersey and add the letters PA right next to the NFL sticker.

tattooit, you and your ilk aren’t Patriot fans, your Brady fans masquerading as Pats fans. For the most part your types will move on after Bradys playing days are over. I look forward to your departure, it can’t come soon enough. #Garoppolo

Well you’re half right… I’m definitely NOT A PATS FAN. Thank god because I’d hate my own fanbase.

I’m a Giants fan with a soft spot for BB. I respect what he’s done in the game, for the Pats and more importantly for my Giants under Parcells. I also happen to think Brady is the best ever at his position, so I respect that.

Excuse me if I don’t think Garropolo is worth a squirrel turd. I live in RI so I’ve watched all of his preseason work. The kid looks below average AT best. For a third year guy, he should not be making some of the mental mistakes he does. I’m willing to bet he he gets benched before Brady even gets back on the field.

    —————————————————————-
It’s funny every time one of these football geniuses tries to discredit Tom Brady with the “system QB” nonsense. Maybe more teams should develop systems instead of making up plays in the huddle.

The opposite of system QB is sandlot football. I guess whenever someone calls Brady a “system QB” they are actually making fun of the other 31 teams.

  50. skawh says: Sep 10, 2016 2:36 PM

Gronk didn’t want any part of that bad AZ defense.

Now, to equal the playing field the ref’s need to allow headhunting of the Pat’s QB just like they allowed it all of the Denver/Carolina game.

Unreal what they allowed in that game against Cam.
