Report: Gronk did not make the trip with Patriots Friday

FOXBORO, MA - AUGUST 11: Rob Gronkowski #87 of the New England Patriots watches during pre game drills before a preseason game against the New Orleans Saints at Gillette Stadium on August 11, 2016 in Foxboro, Massachusetts. (Photo by Jim Rogash/Getty Images) Getty Images

Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski was not on the team plane when the Patriots left for Arizona Friday afternoon, the Providence Journal reported.

Though that doesn’t necessarily mean that Gronkowski will miss Sunday’s night’s game vs. the Cardinals — he could still be getting treatment at home in hopes of playing, and the team charter left more than 48 hours before kickoff — his absence from the flight is a sign that the Patriots have been preparing to play without him.

Gronkowski has been battling a hamstring injury and told reporters he’s “week to week” because of it.

Offensive tackle Nate Solder and guard Jonathan Cooper also weren’t on the flight, per the report. The Patriots listed all their injured players as questionable on their official injury report Friday.

Patriots do not need this win over Arizona since it is out of the Division & Conference.

They should rest Edelman, Gronk and the entire 1st string of players on this first game.

Treat the game like another Preseason game and play 3rd string and practice squad to stick it to the NFL on Sunday night.

Put the Number 12 on everyone’s jersey and add the letters PA right next to the NFL sticker.

Both teams offenses will struggle. The Patriots defense is crazy good, very opportunistic, and will keep them in the game. Don’t be surprised if Patriots defense scores a pick six in this game.

HATE Pats…but Gronk is an all time great who is ALWAYS hurt so….

    Plan for Gronk :

    No Practice
    No Contact
    No Training Camp
    Strength/Conditioning Workouts ONLY
Give me 3-4 Hrs of matchup nightmare every Sunday and then go back to slam dancing or whatever the hell you do until we need you again next Sunday

Should be a close game. I’m sure AZ has a couple players that will be out too. All teams have someone dinged up from the preseason.

Pats have 3 other very good TEs in Bennet, Derby and Harbor.

  7. bigbits2 says: Sep 9, 2016 5:24 PM

The backup offensive tackles are offensive for the Patriots. Garapolo better have a quick release.

It’s always, always, always the injuries that dominate ever NFL season. Healthy teams go to the playoffs. Injured teams, not so much.

Before the opening kickoff, the Patriots have already lost their two starting tackles (Solder/ Vollmer), their starting RB (Dion Lewis), in addition to Gronk. This is not a way to start the season.

Actually, the Cardinals are very healthy to start the season for the first time under Arians. The only player expected to miss the game & a couple after that, is their #4 OLB Kareem Martin.

I’m sick of teams spying on the Pats. Obviously Arians has some moles placed since this was a huge deal in ESPN’s OTL column sharing how players thought it was eerie when Belichick would tell them which opposing players did not make the flight.

Told you all. Pappa Gordy told the Gronk to sit this one out. No sense getting hung out to dry over the middle but a paddy footed scrub like Garrapolo, in a game that’s almost virtually garuteed to be a loss.

Stay healthy and wait for 12 to get out of the penalty box. Then rampage through the rest of the season per usual.

“players thought it was eerie when Belichick would tell them which opposing players did not make the flight.”

Since its common knowledge who doesn’t make the flights for most team because the teams, you know, usually announce that players x and y didn’t take the road trip, I doubt any player found that “eerie”.

Well unless Belichick used a really spooky voice when he told them.

But, if not, this is partially why Bennet was brought on board… & with Derby & Harbor the Pats can STILL FIELD 3 TE sets…

Probably best to be safe & rest him…

  35. chesswhileyouplaycheckers says: Sep 9, 2016 6:49 PM

The Pats would be unlikely to beat an excellent AZ team in their home opener even with the 3 of them playing. Between the O-line changes and not having enough of the starters healthy and playing and practicing together through camp and the preseason it would have been hard for them to do it with Brady under center. It is what it is, the season is a marathon, not a sprint.

  36. jvw1982 says: Sep 9, 2016 7:07 PM

Gronk is the only Patriot I like, he is the only one who has the sack big enough to do what he wants….He talks to the press about his injuries, he tells them how he feels, drinks, doesn’t keep a low profile in the off season and Belichick can’t do anything about it lol….He decides if he plays or not, not the Pat doctors….remember how he took his time with that plate in his forearm to begin the season, he made sure he was ready even though Bill wasn’t happy about it……no way he gets cut….Gronk for 10 games and playoffs is better than anyone else at that position….ever….

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Smart Leaders know that losing a small battle to save your troops (INJURY) leads to winning the WAR (SuperBowl)!

Secondly, the Pats have the same opportunity at winning this game = NO MATTER who is starting.

My POINT in emphasis is looking to preserve HEALTHY Players for the Division & Conference games ( winning the WAR = Division/Playoffs) and at the same time upsetting the plans of Goodel/NYC Office from further hurting the Patriots ability to rebound from Brady’s 4 game suspension = SMART coaching = WINS !!!

Nothing like a poser…er, poster whose screen name declares everyone else a fool exposing themselves as one. The injury report reflects what the league wants it to. Doubtful or questionable until the final required report (since NE is playing Sunday night theirs will come on Sunday afternoon) when any players that were listed as doubtful/questionable that are not playing must be reported as ‘out.’ The thumbs down parade is doubtless made up of ‘fools’ that actually know the rules. No matter where they are from.

The Arizona game may be a challenge without Brady and Gronk, but the Patriots are still certain to win at least 12 maybe 13 games and obliterate the AFC East again – LOL.

Gronk was listed as questionable because his hamstring injury is day to day and the injury report had to be sent out on Wednesday for Sunday games. His injury hadn’t healed enough by Friday for him to play on Sunday. He will be listed as out when the final report is sent out on Friday. There is no longer a Doubtful desigination so Questionable was the correct desigination.

Well you’re half right… I’m definitely NOT A PATS FAN. Thank god because I’d hate my own fanbase.

I’m a Giants fan with a soft spot for BB. I respect what he’s done in the game, for the Pats and more importantly for my Giants under Parcells. I also happen to think Brady is the best ever at his position, so I respect that.

Excuse me if I don’t think Garropolo is worth a squirrel turd. I live in RI so I’ve watched all of his preseason work. The kid looks below average AT best. For a third year guy, he should not be making some of the mental mistakes he does. I’m willing to bet he gets benched before Brady even gets back on the field.

  54. clssylssy says: Sep 10, 2016 10:09 AM

I’m sure the Patriots don’t consider this game little mire than another preseason game w/o Brady, and not worthy of the risk for injuring their marquis players like Gronk. A W or L at this stage of the game won’t effect them later in the playoffs like a potential season ending injury. It’s as much about longterm strategy and Bilichick is the best “General” in the NFL.
    It sucks for Cardinal fans!

  55. fanasaurus says: Sep 10, 2016 10:57 AM

tattooit, you say you respect BB, if that’s so then explain Bill’s comment that his team doesn’t game plan in the preseason. To say that Jimmy will be benched before Tom returns shows your ignorance of the Pats roster. Name the price, I’ll take that bet and even give you odds. Make sure you check back in to eat some crow, I’ll be looking for you.
