Source: Anthony Davis does not plan to retire

Despite a report that 49ers offensive lineman Anthony Davis was thinking of retiring, we’re told that is not in the plans for Davis.

A league source tells PFT that Davis does not plan to retire.

Davis is, however, listed as questionable for the 49ers’ opener on Monday night against the Rams, for reasons the 49ers have only said are “not injury related.” Davis did not practice with the team today.

If Davis does retire, he’s required to pay back to the 49ers a portion of his signing bonus. If he is released, however, he would not have to pay that money back. So if Davis doesn’t want to play for the 49ers anymore, he’d be better off getting released than retiring.

The 26-year-old Davis was the 49ers’ first-round draft pick in 2010 and played five good years with the team before announcing last year that he would take the year off. He returned to the 49ers this year and will be their starting right guard, if he plays.

He’s doing his part to knock Brett Favre out of the record books.

This guy is a head case

No one wants to play for the Niners. Something’s not right in San Fran.

  5. tjdvikes says: Sep 10, 2016 6:41 PM

Maybe he took a look at more tape of Aaron Donald, and decided,”ah, Hell No”.

  6. number1hawkfan says: Sep 10, 2016 6:42 PM

Was probably hoping the niners would trade or release him. He probably looked around the league and thought “everybody has it better…. What am I doing on this sinking ship”?

That was lazy. I just copied and pasted it from the other story…. I don’t care I thought it was funny. Not as funny as that joke in Santa Clara.

Between him and Kaepernick it’s like a bad late show comedy act.

Best line from Stand By Me: “Hey, Lardass! Chow down, wide load!”

Go QUIT again. You suck anyway!

Go back to Seattle and pretend you’ve been a lifelong fan like the rest of the 12’s.

Meaning you, “nubmer1hawkfan.” Let me ask you something: what number President was Cortez Kennedy? Most Seahawks fans would say 35th. Or the 36th. Or maybe even the 12th. Because they only became fans in 2012 and have no idea who Cortez Kennedy is.

Sounds like he’s trying to pull a Kaepernick and make himself enough of a nuisance and distraction to force the team to release him and pay him at the same time.

I don’t doubt that his name is literal. He probably was the first to jump on the 2012 bandwagon.

Everybody has it better? Harbaugh living in your head rent free or something cause that hasn’t been a team slogan since he left. But what hasn’t come out of seattle that wasn’t sad or lame.

    Phew! At least that’s settled.

    don’t worry niners fans,

    chip kelly has it covered

    his management skills are incomparable

  15. mindelm42 says: Sep 10, 2016 8:19 PM

    Giants could use him

It’s starting to seem like a colluded effort between Davis and Kaepernick to ruin the 49ers season to take down their common enemy Trent Baalke. But they want to have their “cake” and eat it too, so they’re going about it in a very roundabout way. Kap’s phony private doctor “injuries” to guarantee his salary, sloooooww recovery, and promotion of race issues to divide a mixed race team (and league).
Davis sabbatical, return, professed enthusiasm, then throwing a wrench in the gears on the eve of the opener. Calling out his teammates and O line mates on social media. Both of them openly denigrating Baalke publicly. It is a very sticky situation for 9ers FO to deal with, and a non winner whichever direction they decide to move. They can only wait things out and keep a happy face until one or other of the malcontents makes the wrong move and they void the contracts and run them out of town, and out of the NFL in all probability. That’s my take.

After telling his wife of his plans to retire, he later addressed the press with red slap marks all over his face and announced that he will never retire.

  18. officialgame says: Sep 10, 2016 8:59 PM

The sooner SF fans realize that nobody wanted to play for Chip Kelly the better off they will be. He’ s a fraud that can’t be trusted and he will take you down.

  19. mediasloppy says: Sep 10, 2016 9:00 PM

This is silly. Who goes through practice right before the season starts only to retire…

  20. thermalito says: Sep 10, 2016 9:37 PM

Good. I wish nothing but ill-will on this disgraceful franchise I was once a fan of but no longer. I hope the Santa Clara Social Justice Warriors lose every game they play this year.

Money money money money money. There’s five reasons he came back.

  22. realfann says: Sep 10, 2016 10:52 PM

What signing bonus? He already paid it back last year. Please keep up.

Anthony Davis is giving Trent Baalke a headache.

    Dude just go away already

  25. mschurm1 says: Sep 11, 2016 1:45 AM

I just wish I could get an alert that will tell me if Davis wants to play or not that day.

  26. amaf21 says: Sep 11, 2016 9:28 AM

maybe his mommy talked to jed and trent and told them to stop being mean to her precious snowflake.

  27. bassplucker says: Sep 11, 2016 10:36 AM

Dude’s got issues. Cut him or better yet, trade him to Cleveland for a 2018 conditional 7th.
