C.J. Spiller inactive for the Saints

Running back C.J. Spiller’s first year in New Orleans didn’t see him produce much on the field and he’s not off to a great start when it comes to turning that around in 2016.

Spiller is inactive for the season opener against the Raiders despite not being listed on the team’s injury report, making him a healthy scratch. Tim Hightower, Travaris Cadet, Daniel Lasco and Marcus Murphy all join Mark Ingram in the lineup at running back for the Saints.

Spiller saw time with the first team during the preseason and there was a lot of talk from both player and team about how this season would be a better one for the ninth overall pick of the 2010 draft. Spiller was listed as “other” on this week’s depth chart, however, and it looks like it may take an injury from a player ahead of him in the pecking order for Spiller to get a chance to show that he has more to offer the team this time around.

Spiller is in the second year of a four-year deal he signed with the Saints as a free agent last year.

    Cut him…cut Ellerbe too.

Maybe the Saints management should just swear off signing veteran free agents altogether. Just say no, Loomis.

I thought the Bills coaching staff wasn’t using him properly?

A change of scenery was supposed to be a no-brainer for him, a real Super Bowl winning coach like Sean Payton would bring out all his talent and put him in a position to score every single down.

    Riding Pine now. Hmm.

I’m surprised they carry 6 backs on the roster. He would have been cut by most teams already.
