The Chiefs and Chargers each had players with roster exemptions this week, but only one of them has been activated ahead of Sunday’s kickoff.
The Chiefs activated safety Eric Berry on Saturday, putting him on the active roster for the first time since he signed his franchise tender and reported to the team late in August. He’s expected to be in his customary roles as a starter in the secondary and leader for the team’s defense.
Chargers defensive end Joey Bosa is expected to be a leader for San Diego’s defense at some point, but it won’t be this week. Not only did Bosa fail to sign a contract until late in the preseason, he’s dealing with a hamstring injury after getting in one unpadded practice with the team this week.
The Chargers have a roster exemption for Bosa through the Chiefs game, so he’ll need to be activated next week. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that he’s week-to-week because of the hamstring, however, so the date of his NFL debut remains uncertain.
