Jimmy Garoppolo sets an early tone for Patriots

New England Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (10) warms up prior to an NFL football game against the Arizona Cardinals, Sunday, Sept. 11, 2016, in Glendale, Ariz. (AP Photo/Ross D. Franklin) AP

He may not make anybody in New England forget about Tom Brady, but Jimmy Garoppolo is at least off to a good start.

Garoppolo’s first possession as a starter in the NFL was a fruitful one, as he led the Patriots to a quick touchdown drive and a 7-0 lead at Arizona.

Garoppolo hit Chris Hogan for a 37-yard touchdown pass, making them the poor man’s version of Brady to Julian Edelman.

It was a strong start for Garoppolo, who was 4-of-5 passing for 75 yards and the score. The eight-play, 74-yard drive was a smooth one, taking just 4:13 to build the early lead on the road.

But for Garoppolo, it’s as much about setting the tone for his four-game stint as starter as anything particular to this game, as he needs to show he can be trusted and he has.

Nice methodical poised drive. Very Brady like🙂

JG doesn’t need to be Tom. Take what they give you, run when you need to and and don’t make mistakes.🙂

You’d be remiss to not mention that the TD pass was an absolutely perfect beautiful teardrop pass…..I don’t even like the Patriots.

Boys, you can barely tell Tom is wearing that Mission Impossible style mask of Jimmy G.

Hi Haters, and i dont even like using that word. I Know its early, but does Bill B get his team to play regardless of who is starting.

The trolls’ heads will explode if the Pats pull this out on the road with what is essentially their 2nd team offense.. hurry, someone check the PSI of those footballs, the Pats must be cheating!!

The Patriots system is so good, a high schooler can start at QB and have success. That’s why Belichick and Mr. Kraft are the GOAT.

  11. j0esixpack says: Sep 11, 2016 9:15 PM

This is SO clearly all about Goodell showing his favoritism for his buddy Bob Kraft

Sure they had to make it look convincing – almost like he was punishing the Patriots – but clearly Goodell is trying to help the Patriots find their franchise QB for the next 15 years by giving Garoppolo the spotlight

He’s not fooling anyone – everyone knows the footballs weren’t deflated – the NFL’s own PSI data showed this

So clearly DeflateGate is just a favor to Kraft in his quest to find the next Franchise QB and keep going to the Super Bowl every other year as they did in the Brady era

    It makes me sick

This is the part where all the Pats fans who were crying about losing Brady for four weeks start saying that they knew Jimmy would be great all along, right?

  13. LyinRogerMustGo says: Sep 11, 2016 9:26 PM

Whoops fumble. Good test for JG and his confidence on the next drive.

Hate to admit it, but NE looks good tonight. Much better than what Arizona is doing. I took AR by a mile and was so wrong.

And we have it!! The first troll with a week shot at Brady

What kind of loser makes his screen name in reference to a team he is clearly jealous of?

Aren’t Pats fans clever? You see they pretend to be anti-Pats but now converted and the rest of us are supposed to be convinced cheating should be ignored.

    Wow.

    Clever.

I realize this thread is about Garappolo – but keep an eye on Chris Hogan.

Hogan could be the next Wes Welker/Julian Edelman small school wideout for the Pats, and he’s got the heart, soul and talent to be just that.

Belichick hand-picked Welker after facing off with him when he was a Dolphin. And Hogan is another former intra-divisional opponent Belichick targeted after appreciating Hogan’s game when he was in Buffalo.

Not only do all of these guys hail from tiny NON-football factory type schools, they’re all gritty, scrappy, intelligent, coachable, have great hands and all are willing to eat the hit. Watch Hogan this year, New England – I bet you will dig it.

It’s okay everyone, Tom’s playing photo-op catch with Gisele to stay in football-ready form. And here I was worried he might be a little rusty by Week 5.

Well they are looking pretty good, on the road against one of the better teams in the league without Tom. Or Gronk…and both tackles… Gets me to thinking they may start Jimmy for more than just 4 so Tom can get more ready.

That should make you, as a Fins fan feel better🙂

If you want to beat the patriots you need to take the head off the snake. I’m not talking about repeated cheating g offender Belichick………I’m talking about Goodell. You can’t be simple minded with those guys. It’s not what it seems. What team has played the least amount of teams coming off bye weeks since Goodells tenure? Your right the patriots.

  28. catquick says: Sep 11, 2016 10:00 PM

Those fully inflated balls are harder to hold on to. 2 fumbles. One they recovered, but still, a fumble. Funny how the NBC crew failed to mention it.

And again with the phony ‘stats’. The Saints have played the fewest number of teams coming off byes in the Goodell error, the Falcons the most. The Pats are 14th. C’mon chippy, put up your phony numbers. I have the real ones right here for every team.

  35. rootpain says: Sep 11, 2016 11:37 PM

Love to say I saw that coming but that would be a lie. Good work New England and Jimmy G. I can just imagine the expletives deleted coming from Goodell’s house. And I’m sure that Tom Brady is as proud as can be.
