Ryan Fitzpatrick set a Jets record with 31 touchdown passes last season and he looked like the same quarterback on the team’s first drive of the 2016 season.
Fitzpatrick was 3-of-5 for 31 yards on the 10-play drive and finished it off by hitting Quincy Enunwa for a three-yard touchdown pass. Jalin Marshall drew a defensive pass interference flag on Dre Kirkpatrick a play earlier to set the Jets up on the doorstep of the end zone.
Fitzpatrick hit Matt Forte for a 10-yard gain on Forte’s first catch as a member of the team. Forte also picked up 20 yards on three carries to show another facet of what made him attractive to the Jets.
The Bengals’ first offensive drive stalled after a false start and a timeout were followed by a Lorenzo Mauldin sack on third down to force a punt.
