The Vikings first announced Sunday morning that starting cornerback Xavier Rhodes had been downgraded to questionable, then Rhodes was made inactive for the season opener at Tennessee.
Trae Waynes will start in his place. Waynes, a first-round pick in 2015, started one game as a rookie.
Rhodes was a limited participant in practice last Wednesday and Thursday with a hamstring injury, then a full participant Friday. The team noted that it’s a knee injury, not the hamstring, that’s keeping Rhodes out today.
The absence of Rhodes also probably means extra snaps in the secondary for veteran Terence Newman.
