As the 49ers prepare to launch the regular season with a home game against the Rams, the biggest pregame question relates to whether other San Francisco players will join quarterback Colin Kaepernick and safety Eric Reid in not standing for the national anthem.

It simply doesn’t matter to the 49ers.

As one source with knowledge of the team’s thinking told PFT, the approach has been to let players choose what they want to do, with no effort to determine ahead of time whether they will or won’t stand for the national anthem. The team stated its position from the outset of the controversy that emerged 17 days ago; it simply doesn’t matter to the organization whether others join Kaepernick and Reid.
