The Chargers have lost their top receiver but are closer to getting their first-round draft pick on the field.

Keenan Allen has been placed on injured reserve after suffering a knee injury yesterday, while Joey Bosa has been placed on the 53-man roster.

Technically, Allen could still end up getting the return designation, under the new rule that allows a team to declare after a player has been on injured reserve for six weeks that he will return. But coach Mike McCoy confirmed that the injury is season-ending. Allen is a good player when he’s healthy but missed half of last season and will now miss 15 games this year.

Bosa had a roster exemption because of his lengthy contract holdout. He’ll now be eligible to play on Sunday against the Jaguars, although a hamstring injury may limit him.
