During the second half of Sunday’s Cowboys-Giants game, it wasn’t hard to see light from the sun streaming through the west windows at AT&T Stadium nor was it hard to hear Joe Buck and Troy Aikman discussing the potential impact on receivers during the telecast.

That discussion seemed prescient when tight end Jason Witten failed to hold onto a ball while looking back into the sun in the fourth quarter. Witten admitted the sun was a factor, but not enough of one to explain why he didn’t catch the ball.

“Yeah, it was, but you know what you still should make the plays,” Witten said, via the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “There’s no question about that. The sun kind of got us on a little bit. But we still need to make those plays. I need to make it.”

Wide receiver Dez Bryant said it was a factor on a throw that Giants cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie made a nice play to break up earlier in the quarter. Given how unlikely it is that Jerry Jones will be radically changing the look of his stately pleasure dome, Bryant, Witten and everyone else on the roster will need to figure out how to make plays late in games regardless of the sun conditions.
