Mike Wallace: I told you not to write me off

When wide receiver Mike Wallace signed with the Ravens, he said that he was looking forward to playing with Joe Flacco because he needs to play with a quarterback who “can really sling the ball.”

Wallace showed on Sunday what can happen when someone slings the ball in his direction. Wallace scored Baltimore’s only touchdown of the day on a play that saw Flacco audible out of a run when he saw safety Duke Williams opposite Wallace without any help over the top. Wallace got behind Williams and scored a 66-yard touchdown.

It’s the kind of deep strike that was missing in Miami and Minnesota for much of the last three seasons and Wallace punctuated it with a message for those that doubted he still had those plays in his arsenal.

“A lot of people wrote me off,” Wallace said, via ESPN.com. “They think I don’t have it, but I’ve got something for them. I told you all that from Day 1. They better get ready, because I’m coming.”

It’s one play in the first week of a long season, so Wallace hasn’t quite rewritten the book on him yet. It’s a promising start for him, though, and a promising development for a Ravens offense that was short on big plays all last season.
