We promise we won’t do this every week. Or at least not until it becomes an issue again.

But after his struggles in preseason games and practices became a thing that everyone was talking about, it’s the right thing to do to point out that Buccaneers rookie kicker Roberto Aguayo was perfect yesterday.

Of course, the counter is that he probably should have been, after the Bucs traded up to take him in the second round. But the discussion of value can wait, as a long preseason of misses gave way to a satisfying win, in which he hit a 43-yard field goal and all four of his extra point attempts.

“It was exciting,” Aguayo said, via Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times. “I was definitely ready for the regular season to start, but it felt like another game. Honestly, it felt like it was the fifth game of my career. A very, very exciting win.”

The 22-year-old kicker was also able to meet one of his heroes, in Falcons kicker Matt Bryant. Aguayo got Bryant’s autograph when he was 11 and Bryant was the Buccaneers kicker.

Bryant’s been in the league long enough to have had slumps come and go, even if he can’t match the pressure Aguayo faces because of his draft status.
