Aaron Donald ejected after contacting official

Los Angeles Rams star defensive tackle Aaron Donald was ejected in the fourth quarter of Monday night’s game against the San Francisco 49ers after a pair of personal foul penalties that included contacting an official.

The incident started as Alec Ogletree tackled 49ers quarterback Blaine Gabbert on an option keeper. Ogletree appeared to give Gabbert some extra emphasis on the tackle, which 49ers receiver Torrey Smith took offense too. Both teams began to exchange words and moved to defend their teammates.

Donald then grabbed 49ers receiver Quinton Patton by the back of the neck, then shoved him in the face. Patton’s helmet went flying off his head in the process.

Donald was called for personal foul for shoving Patton after the play and unsportsmanlike contacting an official in the scrum.

Donald slammed his helmet to the turf in anger after being informed of the ejection and appeared to yell “this is b——-, man!” He was then escorted off the field to the locker room by a team official.

Contacting an official comes with a $30,387 minimum fine for a first offense. Striking an opponent is a $9,115 minimum fine.

I could see why he’s upset. Goff has more fantasy points than Keenum.

If Only Hard Knocks was in the locker room after this game.

Good to see that Jeff Fisher and Greg Williams continue to subscribe to the coaching philosophy of undisciplined players who take a lot of bad penalties.

How either of these two are still employed makes one ask questions. And the fact that Fisher was being rumoured for a contract extension is insane.

Aaron Donald is just another in a long line of classless Jeff Fisher players.

    Good player, bad human.

Who could have ever predicted that the Rams defense would play dirty?

  9. pittsburghdamned says: Sep 13, 2016 1:32 AM

That’s a great deal of emotion for players on the league’s worst teams.

  10. motleytrap says: Sep 13, 2016 1:32 AM

First time his name was called all night.

That’s Fisher’s Rams. Picking fights when you’re down by 21.

I believe this makes Donald the first player since the “ODB” game to get ejected under the new rule 2x and you are out.

All though with common sense, last year when he was Beckham fighting with Norman, he should have been ejected, and I honestly think common sense could have prevailed with Donald grabbing an opponent by the back of the neck shoving his helmet off and contact with an official. Would have lead to an ejection without the “new rule’

The fine is $30,387? Is the 387 an extra clerical fee, or what?

It must suck making so much money that measly fines of $40,000 doesn’t dent you in the pocketbook much…..until after you retire and think back about all the money you squandered away because you couldn’t keep your temper in check,…and now you’re broke as hell.

If Donald was not in the NFL, he’d be in prison now.

The ol’ LA/SF rivalry is back on. I feel bad for SEA since they had to leave the AFC West and was just starting a SF/SEA rivalry. Must be ARZ/SEA then.

What I don’t get is why the Rams player #52 who started the whole thing by roughly putting down QB Gabert & then using Gabert’s head as a way to push himself off of the ground, didn’t get flagged too. He was absolutely in the wrong as well!!

  23. packerpauly says: Sep 13, 2016 5:50 AM

How in the world does Jeff Fisher still have a head coaching gig?

  24. tfoxglove says: Sep 13, 2016 5:56 AM

Fair play to Jeff Fisher he called it in Hard Knocks; he said he wasn’t going to go 7-9, 8-8, 9-7 or 10-6 for that matter, the aim must be getting the #1 overall pick next year.

  25. tfoxglove says: Sep 13, 2016 6:03 AM

“The fine is $30,387? Is the 387 an extra clerical fee, or what?”

Is it a % of salary?

No point fining Luck $30k, he makes that in about 8 hours but for an undrafted rookie $30k is four weeks salary.

  26. jgd3rd says: Sep 13, 2016 6:17 AM

Believe most fines are based on a percentage of the player’s salary

The Rams might be the first team to be shutout for all 16 games. Impressive.

  29. smoov513 says: Sep 13, 2016 8:11 AM

I don’t see how the Rams got shut out, they had 9 months to prepare for this game and couldn’t even score 1 point….massive failure. Not only that, they gave up 28 points to an offense ran by a QB who can’t pass the ball, the offensive and defensive game plans were obviously not very good..

The GM is looking inept; from drafting Goff, extending Austin, and pushing ownership to extend Jeff Fisher…it really makes you wonder if these guys have a clue on how to build a championship football team.

I know it’s only one week, but getting shut out in the opener is not going to help you sell tickets in LA, a what have you done for me lately type of city where there are much better things to do on Sunday than watch a Pop Warner level team get beat up on by one of the worst teams in the NFL.

Actually about 29 other teams have it better. If you rank the three worst teams in the league the Rams and Browns are probably tied for 1 bringing your 9ers in at 3. So congrats!!

My favorite part of it all (as I live in So. Cal) is all of the bandwagon Rams fans here now, getting what they asked for…

I have a friend from Nor. Cal, who has lived here in So. Cal for a decade, who was a 49ers Fan… He immediately jumped on the Rams when they moved back.

Like many others… Boy are they gonna regret that for some time.

Ironically there’s a flood of Rams home game tickets available on NFL ticket exchange. Nice way to reintroduce football to a fanbase that could care less. Plus, just to pile on, the best thing that could happen to the Rams and their “fans” is a complete housecleaning of the coaching staff.

Williams is still in the league because he lied about the extent of bounty gate so Goodell could dismantle the Saints and feel good about himself so that was his reward and his boss has a job because the NFL league office loves him as they have a job waiting for him, the extension is so when they fire him he has a nice severance to take with him to his new job kissing Goodell butt….My question is how can Ram fan sit here 4 yr with his best record being 7-9 and not call for his head and to start yr 5 the 49ers just shut him out….

  38. tntitansblog says: Sep 13, 2016 10:48 AM

Jon Robinson, Titans GM, sits laughing after last night. After 1 week of play, Titans have the #1 and #2 pick in 2017 NFL draft (Titans traded #1 overall 2016 to Rams for Goff who didn’t even dress).

  39. motsuret06 says: Sep 13, 2016 11:09 AM

Ka-ching Ka-Ching…this dude will be much lighter in the wallet at the end of the week. The Rams will be lucky to be 7-9 again no matter where they are located. Jeff Fisher has to go….bye bye Jeff.

  40. mongo3401 says: Sep 13, 2016 11:13 AM

I am glad to see the Rams back home but have to say LA is not like St Louis. if the Rams do not out a better product on the field the Coloseum will be half empty by mid season. Too much money and places to go in LA vs St Louis and the people will spend their money someplace else instead of watching the Snead/Fisher clown show.

People cheer for teams they have connections to whether it’s proximity, team your family cheered for, favorite player, etc. I’m a 49ers fan who has been in LA for about 15 years now and I won’t change loyalties even though York is trying to outdo Haslam for worst ownership. I’ll follow the Rams because they’re local and I’m a CAL guy (Goff).

Many long time LA residents and natives lost interest in the Rams once they left and cheered for other teams. Not everyone will automatically switch teams just because the Rams RETURNED to LA.

    ________________

Sf still wants Seattle do not worry. Richard Sherman and the seahawks made a mockery of the niners and ran Jim Harbaugh out of town.

When Sf gets good again (this year?) It’ll be right back to the shouting.

The Rams are the rams…being rivals with a bad team is no fun at all. As a hawks fan I miss the niner rivalry that was budding. You guys made the nfcw really interesting for a couple years there. The cards aren’t rivals they are boring.
