Los Angeles Rams star defensive tackle Aaron Donald was ejected in the fourth quarter of Monday night’s game against the San Francisco 49ers after a pair of personal foul penalties that included contacting an official.
The incident started as Alec Ogletree tackled 49ers quarterback Blaine Gabbert on an option keeper. Ogletree appeared to give Gabbert some extra emphasis on the tackle, which 49ers receiver Torrey Smith took offense too. Both teams began to exchange words and moved to defend their teammates.
Donald then grabbed 49ers receiver Quinton Patton by the back of the neck, then shoved him in the face. Patton’s helmet went flying off his head in the process.
Donald was called for personal foul for shoving Patton after the play and unsportsmanlike contacting an official in the scrum.
Donald slammed his helmet to the turf in anger after being informed of the ejection and appeared to yell “this is b-------, man!” He was then escorted off the field to the locker room by a team official.
Contacting an official comes with a $30,387 minimum fine for a first offense. Striking an opponent is a $9,115 minimum fine.
