Color Blind Bowl II isn’t coming Thursday night

After last year’s embarrassing Jets-Bills Color Rush game that made it impossible for the color blind to enjoy the action, the NFL promised to factor the reality that some people can’t distinguish certain colors before ditching the standard one-team-wears-solid-one-team-wears-white approach to most sports.

“We did test the jerseys this summer on field and on television,” the NFL said last year after the first Jets-Bills Color Rush contest. “The standard television test did not account for color blindness for fans at home that became apparent last night. We will enhance our testing to include a color blindness analysis to better address this issue in the future.”

This year, the Jets and Bills will play in the first Color Rush game. And even though the official, once-per-year Color Rush uniforms are, once again, all red for the Bills and all green for the Jets, Color Blind Bowl II won’t be happening. The Jets will be wearing white.

“We have taken steps this season to ensure that all uniform combinations will be clearly distinguishable for all fans,” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy told PFT by email. “We engaged color-blindness experts at Mt. Sinai Hospital and panel-tested possible match-ups.”

It’s a smart move from the NFL, but it’s still a confusing situation. Why not make the Jets’ Color Rush uniform all white in the first place? Chances are it has something to do with giving the fans something to devote their greenbacks to, other than the team’s standard white road jerseys.

The entire color rush idea is a failure.

No ‘chances are’ about it, you hit the ugly azz greedy color rush nail right on the head. Had to bother the league to have to do it though, green without a doubt being their favorite color.

I hope no fans buy these awful, ugly unis.

Great, so to accommodate like 3% of the population the rest of us lose the chance to have fun with the Christmas lights bowl

  7. cosmicconvoy says: Sep 13, 2016 10:43 AM

    Another asinine idea.

What colors should they wear for the totally blind? How about the brain dead?

  8. mysportsrumors says: Sep 13, 2016 10:44 AM

thankfully this saves up from watching all brown and purple unis when the Browns/Ravens play

  9. magnumpimustache says: Sep 13, 2016 10:47 AM

    Why why why?

    I don’t get it? What’s the point?

I buy team jerseys to support the team I root for.

    It just looks dumb

  10. mmack66 says: Sep 13, 2016 10:55 AM

What losers are buying team jerseys to begin with?

  11. NFLisnotreality says: Sep 13, 2016 11:01 AM

The color blind would be happy NOT to see the Hawks color rush jerseys this year…

  12. granadafan says: Sep 13, 2016 11:04 AM

I blame the gullible fans for buying and continuing the farce of the ever-changing jerseys for the sake of $$.

There should just be two jerseys: one for the road, one for the home game.

  13. laces out says: Sep 13, 2016 11:07 AM

How about instead of Color Rush uniforms on Thursday Night, they wear throwbacks?

  14. umrguy42 says: Sep 13, 2016 11:08 AM

Can I just say I hate the all-white/all-color look anyway? Go back to the white (or light) pants with color top and color pants with white top options.

Mind you, this is a multi billion dollar operation, where the commissioner collects 40 mil per to be a lying moron.

Any job openings on Park Ave?

  16. randy8123 says: Sep 13, 2016 11:13 AM

Why not make the Jets’ Color Rush uniform all white in the first place?

Why not get rid of this dumb, dumb, dumb idea altogether?

  17. clayjtitan66 says: Sep 13, 2016 11:16 AM

    Fire Goodell

  18. richc111 says: Sep 13, 2016 11:24 AM

how about accounting for the fans that can’t stand the uniforms, do you have to have a disability to be taken into consideration in this world now.

  19. buttfumbles says: Sep 13, 2016 11:35 AM

I used to buy jerseys, then I grew up.

  20. floriosnuts says: Sep 13, 2016 11:35 AM

It is truly astonishing that the NFL can’t get this right. Or why it even bothers with this non-sense. All this time and effort just to sell a few more jerseys?

  21. misteranderson41 says: Sep 13, 2016 12:15 PM

couldn’t they have had the jets wear all black? nike and the nfl love black jerseys.

the whole point of the color rush was both teams wearing full bleed colored unis

  22. eroschmidt says: Sep 13, 2016 12:46 PM

LOVED the Bills in the all red uni’s last year….

  23. xcflqb7 says: Sep 13, 2016 12:57 PM

Just as I saw this article, I received an email from announcing “Football Reivented” and my ‘opportunity’ to buy a color rush jersey….. this is pure crap, uniforms that look like pajamas last seeen on a a high school rival team we used to mock derisively before running up the score … these idiots aren’t reinventing a damn thing – nothing more than an NFL- Nike money grub – hoping classic uniforms in the Russell Athletic/Champion mode stay that way – would anyone take the Tampa Bay Halloween outfits over their originals ?

Boycott this s@#t only way it goes away.

  24. thegreatgabbert says: Sep 13, 2016 1:19 PM

Then they need to come up with colors to accomodate the “completely blind”. The officials.

  25. entropysdomain says: Sep 13, 2016 3:14 PM

Not a shock they didn’t consider it the first since mostly it’s men who are color blind. The NFL completely ignores men’s health in favor of heavily promoting women’s health so this is consistent with them taken for granted their largest demographic.

  26. onlynyteam22 says: Sep 13, 2016 9:18 PM

This is still bad. Red and green colorblind. I am a Bills fan, I have seasons, I will be there Thursday night. Being red green colorblind I have never had a hard time seeing the players because they don’t wear red jerseys. Until now. The grass is Green , the whole uniform is red. Besides the little helmets that are white along with the Jets. This is going to better than last year but still bad. The red jerseys will blend with the field. Luckily I will be there. Still will be tough on TV. If they come out in red helmets, im done.

  27. PFT-made-me-change-my-handle says: Sep 13, 2016 10:29 PM

And about a 4th of the teams are just wearing their regular whites. What’s the use?
