The Dolphins defensive line will be down a man for at least the next couple of months.
Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports that defensive tackle Earl Mitchell will be placed on injured reserve. Mitchell injured his calf against the Seahawks on Sunday after missing much of the summer while dealing with an injury in the same area.
Garafolo adds that the team does believe that Mitchell may not miss the entire season as a result of the injury. Teams can designate a player to return after they spend six weeks on injured reserve, so their plans may change based on Mitchell’s recovery and/or another injury to a player the Dolphins deem more important to their cause.
Mitchell is in his third year with the Dolphins and had 55 tackles and two sacks while appearing in 28 games for the team in his first two seasons. Terrence Fede, Jordan Phillips and Julius Warmsley are options to play with Ndamukong Suh.
