With Allen out, Chargers work out some receivers

The Chargers worked out veteran wide receivers Chris Givens and Griff Whalen on Tuesday, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

With Keenan Allen out for the season after suffering a torn ACL in last Sunday’s season opener, the Chargers are down to just four wide receivers on their active roster.

Givens was cut by the Eagles in training camp, and Whalen was cut by the Dolphins last week. No one available at this point is going to replace Allen in the Chargers’ offense, but the team is looking for experience.

The four wide receivers on the roster are Travis Benjamin, Dontrelle Inman, Tyrell Williams and Isaiah Burse. Only Williams and Inman had caught a pass in a regular season game from Philip Rivers in a game before last weekend, and Williams was an undrafted rookie last year who played in just four games. The Chargers added Benjamin in free agency last spring in hopes he’d become a deep threat.

Givens has played with the Rams and Ravens. Whalen has game experience with the Colts.

Jerry will trade you Terrance Williams for a case of beer and a couple of cheerleaders for his party bus.

Here comes Jarius Wright! Vikings get a draft pick and Wright won’t waste his talent sitting on the bench.

Roddy White is out there. Shanahan refused to throw him the ball last year, but he’s worth a look.

How many steps must James Jones have lost? They had him through much of preseason and just cut him before the season started. If they haven’t called him back this week then either he’s totally done or they’re as stupid as they seem. I’m leaning toward them being stupid.
