Aaron Dobson works out for 49ers, Chargers

Free agent wide receiver Aaron Dobson has worked out for the 49ers and Chargers this week.

Dobson was cut by the Patriots earlier this month. A second-round pick in 2013, he played in just 24 games over three seasons in New England, in part due to injury issues.

The Chargers worked Dobson out after their practice Wednesday. Tuesday, they worked out two smaller receivers, Chris Givens and Griff Whalen.

The Chargers are likely to go with just four wide receivers — Travis Benjamin, Dontrelle Inman, Tyrell Williams and Isaiah Burse — for this week’s game vs. the Jaguars after losing Keenan Allen for the season to a torn ACL last weekend.

Dobson, 25, has 53 career receptions and had four touchdown catches as a rookie.

‘Injury issues’ definitely puts him on Baalke’s radar.

SanDiego likes tall Receivers so I’m guessing they snag him… He’s physically intimidating but VERY inconsistent when it matters….

Wasn’t Griff Whelan involved in the worst special teams play of all time? Kind of sad that when people think of him, they think of that really dumb play.

    Aaron Dropson

I get the Aaron Dropson nickname (nice one) but he still has more ability than any of the other slappies out there on the free agent wire. Maybe the light will come on for him one day. BB’s biggest personnel shortcoming has been drafting WRs so I guess the market will dictate whether anyone else thinks he’s worth a shot. He certainly looks the part of a productive NFL WR. But as the late Joel Buchsbaum used to say (you kids out there won’t get this reference), maybe he just “Looks like Tarzan, but plays like Jane.”

Aaron could get hurt working in a bubble wrap factory.

He’s NE’s second round pick from a couple years ago. Hands or no hands – he’s getting picked up very soon.

Excuse me, Ras-I Dowling and the rest of Belichick’s high round cornerback draft picks are holding on line 1…

With TB’s ability to turn WR JaGs into HoFers, Bill’s shortcomings when it comes to drafting CBs is much more glaring than his inability to select WRs.

Defensive tackles and linebackers, though? Fuggedaboutit.
