Getting drafted in the first two days of the draft usually buys players a lot of time, but that’s not the case in Kansas City this year.

According to multiple reports, the Chiefs have waived cornerback KeiVarae Russell. Russell was the Chiefs’ third-round pick this year and was inactive for their season-opening win over the Chargers.

Russell was a three-year starter at Notre Dame, although he missed the final two games of his final season in South Bend with a fractured tibia and the entire 2014 season as a result of an investigation into academic improprieties at the school.

If another team had a high grade on Russell heading into the draft, they’ll have the chance to claim him off of waivers. If not, the Chiefs could bring him back to the practice squad.

The team is re-signing linebacker Dezman Moses to fill the open roster spot. Moses was released last week.
