Cowboys adding Ryan Davis to defensive line

The Cowboys picked up a pair of sacks in their season-opening loss to the Giants and they’re adding a player to their defensive line in hopes of adding to their pass rushing prowess.

According to multiple reports, the Cowboys will be signing former Jaguars defensive end Ryan Davis. Davis was cut by the Jaguars as they dropped to 53 players earlier this month.

Davis had 11 sacks in four seasons with the Jaguars, which made him an effective situational pass rusher in Jacksonville and leaves him with more career sacks than any player currently on the Cowboys roster. That makes the reason for the Cowboys’ interest in his services fairly obvious and Davis should be seeing playing time quickly.

The Cowboys released cornerback Dax Swanson earlier this week, opening a roster spot for Davis to fill.

This is a solid signing, won’t fully solve the pass rush woes but is a step in right direction, Davis will be used as rotational player to add some juice to the rush until Dlaw and maybe even Gregory come back week 5.

you mean they were too late for cullen jenkins? if they had a g.m. he would know you solve these problems in the offseason and the draft.

So their best pass rusher is going to be someone who couldn’t make the Jaguars team?

The only reason Davis was released in Jacksonville is because they asked him to move back and play OLB, which to his credit he did but just was not as good in space as he was when asked to put his hands in the dirt and rush the passer–he does that well, perfect fit for what Dallas desperately needs right now.

Better than Jack Crawford. Mayowa looks decent though. Like this stopgap signing
