Dak Prescott on Dez Bryant: We’ll make that connection

The Dallas Cowboys are looking to bounce back after Week 1, which means Dak Prescott and Dez Bryant need to get on the same page.

Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant is looking forward to the chance to play against Josh Norman this weekend and he’s likely looking forward to having a bigger impact on this game than he did against the Giants last Sunday.

Bryant caught a pass for eight yards on the first throw of the game, but didn’t have another catch in the 20-19 loss. The closest he came was a ball in the end zone that Bryant was initially ruled to have caught for a touchdown before replays showed he didn’t control the ball all the way to the ground. He was targeted five times overall, less than tight end Jason Witten and wide receiver Cole Beasley, but quarterback Dak Prescott said Wednesday that there shouldn’t be any panic about Bryant’s role in the offense.

“We’ll make that connection,” Prescott said. “I’ll put the ball in a better place. He’ll make those catches. ... We’ll get better. It’s no big deal. Nobody is panicking. We all know we’re headed in the right direction.”

Prescott added that the team isn’t going to force the ball to Bryant for the sake of getting him touches, which is a wise approach to employ with any quarterback but especially a rookie making his second start. That said, they do need to balance that with finding ways to get Bryant open as the best target on a given play because getting your best players the ball is a pretty good formula to winding up on the right side of the final score.
