The Vikings were trailing the Titans 10-6 in the third quarter of their season opener and their offense wasn’t showing many signs of being able to get the ball into the end zone, leaving the Minnesota defense with a need to make a play to swing things in their direction with the Titans moving toward the red zone.
That play came from linebacker Eric Kendricks. Defensive end Everson Griffen pressured Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota into a hurried throw that Kendricks stepped in front of at the 23-yard-line. Kendricks wasn’t touched during a 77-yard touchdown return that put the Vikings in front for good.
That play swung the momentum for Minnesota and it pushed the NFC’s defensive player of the week award into Kendricks’ possession. The second-year linebacker added six tackles and a pass defense over the rest of the afternoon.
Kendricks makes it two straight regular season players of the week for the Vikings defense as Griffen took the honors for the final weekend of the 2015 season.
