Eric Kendricks snags NFC defensive player of the week

Minnesota Vikings linebacker Eric Kendricks (54) returns an intercepted pass 77 yards for a touchdown against the Tennessee Titans in the second half of an NFL football game Sunday, Sept. 11, 2016, in Nashville, Tenn. The Vikings were trailing the Titans 10-6 in the third quarter of their season opener and their offense wasn’t showing many signs of being able to get the ball into the end zone, leaving the Minnesota defense with a need to make a play to swing things in their direction with the Titans moving toward the red zone.

That play came from linebacker Eric Kendricks. Defensive end Everson Griffen pressured Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota into a hurried throw that Kendricks stepped in front of at the 23-yard-line. Kendricks wasn’t touched during a 77-yard touchdown return that put the Vikings in front for good.

That play swung the momentum for Minnesota and it pushed the NFC’s defensive player of the week award into Kendricks’ possession. The second-year linebacker added six tackles and a pass defense over the rest of the afternoon.

Kendricks makes it two straight regular season players of the week for the Vikings defense as Griffen took the honors for the final weekend of the 2015 season.

Internally, vikings also named him their “Offensive Player of the Week.”

Expect more awards going to this defense. When the dust settles one day, they will be known as one of the best defenses to ever play in the NFL.

We’re seeing the 2000 Ravens, 2013 Seahawks, 2015 Broncos defense if they were better. You’re going to tell your kids about this team one day. Sit back and enjoy.

What a great defense this is becoming! Congrats Eric SKOL

The vikings were trailing the Titans in the third quarter, their offense wasn’t able to get the ball into the end zone, when the Titans offense made a mistake. One of 3.

The Titans defense was able to keep the vikings out of the endzone though. Over the hill Peterson averaged only 1.6 yards a carry against that Titans defense.
Yet it was the Titans offense that gave a no name player the weekly award.

Just think that our little sisters to the east passed on him to select the human turtle Jake ryan! Good one Ted!

Hurts when your team gives games away and loses all the rest. Bob Nelson blames himself. Troll.

Clearly the best defense in the north, south, east and west. Lol, let’s go put Rodgers on the turf and make him see UFO’S again.

I was convinced GB would take him round one, forgot how stupid they are at drafting. So glad he fell into our laps round 2. Zimmer has only coached 2 seasons and 1 game and has like 8 Defensive Player of the Week/Month awards. It truly is better football for better people….

I’m sorry but “no name player” is laughable. he lead the team in tackles and was defensive rookie of the month last year………. you WISH he was on your team.

That INT was a great play as he shifted from his primary coverage to make the pick, but Everson really set up that play. Folks can argue that those were Titans’ mistakes; however, the Vikings defense caused them and then took advantage. That being said, Aaron Rodgers won’t make those mistakes.

And the Packers and their fans are saying “Good God, why didn’t we draft him like everybody expected us to?”.

I love it when GB fans come on here talking smack. It’s called JEALOUSLY.

I mean, they are are used to reading other teams news because GB sucked for 20+ straight years, and they had no news about their own team.

The only thing that GB has better at this point is the QB. We have a better run game, better OL, better WR’s, better Special Teams, much better Defense, a better Coaching Staff, and much better Cheerleaders (pretty hard not to beat out the middle school cheer followers) of the Cheese.

All I can say is get used to it. The Vikings are one of the youngest, and best teams in the league. GB however is aging badly and is one injury away from Rodgers from being a disaster.

Pretty soon when GB has no QB, and team not worth watching, these “fans” of the Packers will hide back under their rocks like they did for the team for over 2 decades. Much like they are currently doing for the Bucks and Brewers. When any of those teams come close to the playoffs, they start crawling out from under the rocks like hermit crabs and start acting like they are the best fans in the world again.

I should know, I live in Green Bay. Have seen it happen for a very long time.

Being a Wolverines fan, I loved watching Jake Ryan play, and hated that the Packers drafted him. I hope he has a great career. But, you’d have to be daft to put Ryan in the same conversation with Kendricks.

Is that what vikings fans do??? Compare a 2nd rounder to a 4th to win an argument? The only player we picked over Kendricks was Randall….. not Ryan. Not upset about that pick AT ALL. Cant wait to smack u clowns around this week.

By the way, still looking for where we should tailgate. Let me know if anybody has a recommendation. We looked up the greenhouse on a map, and it’s not clear where to tailgate.

Also, did you know the stadium was on “Chicago Ave.?” Hilarious, what’s the address of your new practice facility? 13 Green Bay Packers Way?

and he didn’t start every game. while Fabio was stealing $12.8 million from the packers going two weeks without a tackle. Kendricks had 50 more tackles than Fabio the Pro bowler.

I wish we had overpaid for Josh Sitton. Maybe that guy could open up some holes for Old Man Peterson. Can’t beleieve “All Pay” aka “AP” only averaged 2 yards a carry against a defense with a bunch of no-namers

    Broncos 23- Vikings 20

    Broncos 29 – packers 10

    Arizona 23 – Vikings 20
(on a short week They played the late afternoon game. and then played Thursday night)

    Arizona 38 – packers 8

The Vikings are closer to the elite teams than the packers. Both were road games like your game was too. But still you have packer fans insisting here they have virtually the same defense as the Vikings. Upon further review – no. And nobody else is saying that either but cult member packer fans.

Umm, just a little early for that…..those other team’s defenses actually won Super Bowls with bad offenses…..the Vikings haven’t come close yet…..and come on, it was the Titans, lol

give it a rest internet tough guy. whoaa Vikings fans are almost scared. Not only not tough but stupid on top of it. Kendricks is what your defense needed – someone in the middle. If you had him you would have had the one dimensional Fabio where he belongs. Rushing the passer.
