Gostkowski wins fourth career AFC Special Teams Player of the Week honor

Stephen Gostkowski AP

Patriots kicker Stephen Gostkowski has been named the first AFC Special Teams Player of the Week of the 2016 season.

Gostkowski made all three of his field goal attempts and both extra points he tried in last week’s 23-21 win over the Cardinals.

That’s a standard performance for Gostkowski, a first-team All-Pro last season and four-time Pro Bowl selection. He’s made 87.5 percent of his field goal tries over the course of his 11-year career.

The AFC weekly honor is the fourth of Gostkowski’s career. Gostkowski’s college teammate at Memphis, Steelers running back DeAngelo Williams, was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week.

I love me some Stevie G but I would have preferred if he had made a field goal in Denver last game there.

Live by the FG, die by the FG.

It was not only field goals it was his 5 kickoffs to the goal line. Thank you Roger you moron.

Woww, very impressive, too bad he missed an extra point in last year’s AFCCG that cost his team big time when they needed him most.
Guess he didn’t do his job.🙂

His kickoffs were the difference maker in the game, especially the last one that set the Cards back to the 10 yard line with the penalty. In your pouting face, Roger.

Remember when everyone laughed and criticized the Patriots for “wasting a 4th round pick” on a KICKER(?) in the 2006 draft? People still think its crazy for teams to do that but oddly enough they don’t turn to the Patriots as an example why.

Miami Dolphins Nation traveling to New England? About the size of Lichtenstein I guess.

Brady doesn’t throw a pic to Miller in the Patriots end then the Patriots probably win that game. That play basically was far worse from a percentage chance of winning than a missed convert. In the end it was a team loss. Can’t win em all

What cost the team even more was the offense managing to throw only 1 TD. If someone told you before that game that Manning was going to throw for twice as many TDs as Brady would you believed it?

A Miami fan commenting on the Pat’s who have been to 6 Super Bowls and won 4 ,in the past 15 years is laughable , since in 14 years the Miami team has been in ONE playoff game. Repeat ONE!!

Can’t wait to see all my Patriot pals this Sunday, i’ll be in section 237 row 16, just look for the vintage dolphins jersey #72, on the back it says PERFECTION, something the Pats dreamed about in 07, so close yet so far.🙂

    Gost Face Kicka.

Didn not realize Gost and Deangelo were college teammates. Funny how Deangelo is always talked about as old but never Gost. Just shows how the RB position is different than all others. There’s no other position where it is assumed you are done by 30.

Yea. I remember all the experts calling GM Belichick an idiot for not resigning Venteri and drafting Gostowski.

Same with Chandler Jones, Richard Seamore, Vrabel, Wilfork, Ty Law, Lawyer Malloy, on and on.

Guess that economics degree comes in handy.

Congrats to the Pats for winning based on the other team missing the FG. I guess they very familiar with it, like against the Ravens?

You missed his ke contribution of forcing kick returns that highly favored the Patriots in starting field position, including the one that started the Cardinals last drive on the 8 yard line.

As opposed to say…the Broncos who won the AFCCG that way or the Giants that won a SB that way? Do you follow football or just troll NE?

Confident that silly Dolphins troll would be gloating if the Pats had missed a kick the end of the game and lost because of it.
Silly trolls would probably say it was due to karma.
