Janoris Jenkins scoffs at Josh Norman not covering Antonio Brown

ARLINGTON, TX - SEPTEMBER 11: Terrance Williams #83 of the Dallas Cowboys carries the ball against Kelvin Sheppard #91 of the New York Giants and Janoris Jenkins #20 of the New York Giants on the last play of the game at AT&T Stadium on September 11, 2016 in Arlington, Texas. When Janoris Jenkins signed with the Giants, it was the biggest contract any cornerback got in this year’s free agency period — until Josh Norman signed with Washington six weeks later.

But while Norman received an impressive contract, Jenkins is not impressed with Norman’s Week One effort. Jenkins believes Norman should have been covering Steelers receiver Antonio Brown on Monday night.

“I think when you’re paying somebody 70 mil, there shouldn’t be no game plan,” Jenkins said. “The game plan should be you’re on this guy, and that’s what it is.”

Jenkins said that his preference is always to challenge himself by going one-on-one against the other team’s No. 1 wide receiver. In hindsight, perhaps that’s what Washington should have done with Norman against Brown.

The Giants face Washington in Week Three, when Norman would be expected to cover Odell Beckham while Jenkins covers DeSean Jackson.

Well, if you’re going to spend $70 million on a CB, it seems a bit weak if he can be simply ignored by having the star WR line up on the other side of the field.

I’m sure Bashaud Breeland wouldn’t have minded if Norman had taken over the responsibility of covering Brown.

Jackrabbit knows. He followed Dez most of the game and blanked him.

Jenkins will get his chance to get his head beat in in a few weeks. First, its the Bungles turn.

I never thought I’d type this, but Janoris Jenkins is 100% correct.

Norman plays best in Zone because he has help up top. It’s right there on tape. If he’s asked to cover in Man it’s a whole other story. He would have been torched time and time again by Brown and they probably figured Breeland would have more success. They thought wrong.

The Redskins play man to man to keep pressure on the WRs, but speedier ones can simply outrun the coverage. Bigger ones can box them out in posts and slants. I hope Dez was watching. Maybe it’ll be nice if he shows up to this game.

The Redskins “brain trust” decided against it.

It’s not a big deal! AB abuses a lot of cornerbacks.

D.C.’s signing of Josh Norman seems to have been a knee-jerk reaction when Carolina surprisingly cut him. I don’t think they thought this one through.

Norman had one good year and as Washington seems to do fairly regularly, they blew their load and gave him way too much money for way too many years. See Haynesworth, Albert. There’s a reason the team that already employed him rescinded their offer.

Good thing this man went to college.

Norman did not look like a $70M player Sunday. He did flap his jaws a lot , which counts for something I guess.

  13. unkleruckus says: Sep 14, 2016 4:50 PM

I don’t get most of the comments. Norman gave up zero touchdowns. And the few times AB lined up on Normans side he didn’t catch a pass or at most one for short yardage. You cant fault Norman for following the coaches orders. If he would have freelanced then he would be labeled a diva, uncoachable, and not a team player. The fault lies 100% with Gruden. Its not like any corner in the league can guard any elite WR without help. Show me one game where an elite corner covered an elite WR the entire game without LB or Safety help? It NEVER happens. The rules favor WR’s and DB’s would get torched all game if left alone for more than a play or two a quarter.

It’s funny how Norman called out Sherman for staying on his side and then Norman does it. Also, when the Hawks corners got hurt and teams started throwing on the right Sherman started following the #1’s last year. Just like he did on Brown and Sherman shut him down. Norman is overrated and Monday was proof but I already knew it when the redskins paid him. The redskins only pay guys who aren’t what they seem, I knew it then.

The Panthers didn’t cut him. He was a free agent and they didn’t want to franchise him because they didn’t feel confident they could get a long term deal done with him. Bet Carolina would’ve loved to have him last Thursday. Db’s do more than cover, they have to also make tackles, which neither of Carolina’s DB’s could do. They were dreadful.

5 corners per team, maybe. multiplied by 32 teams.

that’s a lot of defensive backs.

  17. cboys4life2014 says: Sep 14, 2016 4:58 PM

Actually justintuckrule Rodgers-Cromartie covered Dez Bryant on every pass to Dez I saw. All Jenkins did against Dez was give Dallas 15 yards for grabbing Dez’s face mask.

  18. humnbass says: Sep 14, 2016 5:01 PM

It’s not Josh Norman’s fault. We can’t blame him for having to stick with that crappy defensive scheme and for Gruden to back that crap is ridiculous. Scot should have fired Joe Barry first thing Monday night and put Gruden on notice. a pop warner coach would know to put your best cover man on the best receiver. Regardless of the sport you want your best player matched up with the best player of your opponent if it is at all possible. And we wonder why nobody wanted Joe Barry as a defensive coordinator. “But He’s a terrible DC. That’s Ok. Give him to the Redskins. They’ll take and pay anybody. (the old mikey cereal commercial)

  19. cboys4life2014 says: Sep 14, 2016 5:02 PM

Nevermind justintuckrule I stand corrected. I was thinking Rodgers-Cromartie had him cause I remember him breaking up a pass intended for Dez. My bad.

  20. shanferg says: Sep 14, 2016 5:05 PM

Fix your loop. Jenkins was on Dez the majority of the game. Cromratie was in the slot.

“there shouldn’t be no game plan”

Good thing this man went to college.

Who cares about college? It doesn’t make you smarter — i.e. the majority of people in the comment section on this site most days — his point was clear and understood.

Who cares if you speaks the King’s English with perfect diction and you’re still dumb when it comes to practical application (and millions less wealthy than Jenkins) like so many “college grads”?

BTW, I have three degrees, so don’t even bother trying to come back.

Janoris will get his chance in week 13. Can’t wait to see how he does covering AB.

    Janoris Jenkins to Annoyish Jenkins

  25. judalation says: Sep 14, 2016 5:31 PM

Ok… Jenkins did a good Job covering Dez Bryant in week one… But thats because The Slot wr was too fast and they had to put DRC on him… Jenkins is not the number one WR on the team… And He wont be covering D Jack… that will be DRC’s assignment.

  26. justintuckrule says: Sep 14, 2016 5:55 PM

cboys4life and judalation – Giants are playing DRC in the slot for the time being because Apple can’t do it. The pass that Dez caught came from the inside when DRC blitzed and missed Prescott. As for DJack, McAdoo said Jenkins will be following the best WR when he lines up outside. He’s comfortable letting him do so based on how he did against OB all summer. I’d post the link but pft doesn’t allow it.

Jenkins talking too when he definitely has no room to say anything, he’s been burned more times in his career than the Samsung Note 7

Y’all don’t understand… That it was Brown who ran from Norman. Not the other way around.
