Packers waive rookie running back

SEATTLE, WA - AUGUST 18: Running back Jhurell Pressley #42 of the Minnesota Vikings warms up prior to the game against the Seattle Seahawks at CenturyLink Field on August 18, 2016 in Seattle, Washington. (Photo by Otto Greule Jr/Getty Images) Getty Images

The Packers waived rookie running back Jhurell Pressley on Wednesday.

Pressley had been claimed by the Packers via waivers on Sept. 5. He was an undrafted rookie who spent the spring and summer with the Vikings but was waived during the final preseason cut.

The Packers play the Vikings this week as the Vikings open their new stadium.

The Packers did not announce another roster move, so for now they have an open spot on their 53-man roster.

Stands a good chance of coming back.
    (unless the queens grab him)

Makes sense. The guy can run, but generally speaking, it’s the Vikings that take the Packers sloppy seconds. Not the other way round.

    Better football for better people.

In other words…..”we got all the info out of you about the Vikings schemes”. See ya!!!!!

  4. Norseman says: Sep 14, 2016 6:02 PM

Smells like he was brought in for info on the Vikings offense more than as a player. Now they got what little they could from him, they let him go.

  5. axespray says: Sep 14, 2016 6:10 PM

Jonathan Franklin’s neck injury has thrown our 3rd HB spot out of whack, we’ve been looking for a shifty/speed guy to replace him since then.

Crockett looked alright, but is on IR.
So…idk, Cobb & Montgomery can play in the backfield from time to time.

  6. 13chpshps says: Sep 14, 2016 6:17 PM

CJ Spiller? Speed GB has never had in the backfield. Might pose real problems for defenses on passing downs.

  7. bobnelsonjr says: Sep 14, 2016 6:20 PM

Intel collected and incorporated into game plan.
    Usefulness over.

This was all predicted 2 weeks ago. Look it up.

  8. mnfaninil says: Sep 14, 2016 6:22 PM

When a team is scared of another they make a move like this to bring in player, use him for info, then let him go. Can’t wait to watch the Vikes crush that one man team.

  9. mccarthyisamoron says: Sep 14, 2016 6:27 PM

Of course, because we use that worn out “trick” play with Randall Cobb in backfield….ten times a game.

  10. cheeseisfattening says: Sep 14, 2016 6:34 PM

Wow, the Packer’s buffer room robbed him of his speed in just 1 week. Amazing.

  11. ariani1985 says: Sep 14, 2016 6:35 PM

There are or should be about 8 starting spots available on that horrible defense for him.

    Makes perfect sense.
That probably explains why the Barneys are always collecting Packer castoffs.

Considering our record against the Vikes over the last five years and the three score stomping we gave you at home last year, what are you basing your opinion on? Why would the consistently much better team be scared?

  14. calvinthegreat82 says: Sep 14, 2016 6:58 PM

    Instant starter for the Vikings.

  15. roggsucks says: Sep 14, 2016 7:02 PM

Typical Packer move. Smart but classless. Pickup a player to use him for info while limiting his chances to get a real spot on a team that could use him at the prime time for free agents. No intention for him to ever play a down. Classy! Similar to the crap they pulled on a certain vet lineman that ended up with the Bears. Karma will straighten this out at some point.

The “better football for better people” crap is a bit ironic.

  16. qoojo says: Sep 14, 2016 7:07 PM

Poor kid. This move will probably coincide with another roster move. Perhaps another DL or inside LB.

  17. vikingjack73 says: Sep 14, 2016 7:11 PM

For your information Packers trolls, MN has ZERO ex-Packers!

While Green Bay still has one ex-Viking (Guion) & one ex-Bear (Peppers)

    MN has ZERO of both!
    So….who is poaching who???

  18. beerbratscheese says: Sep 14, 2016 7:16 PM

Well, just as I predicted. They got a little bit of extra information on the Vikings offense and then cut him loose. It’s how good teams operate: leave no stone unturned.

  19. vikingsnyc5 says: Sep 14, 2016 7:21 PM

Granted it was only preseason but I thought he played well. Was hoping he made on to the practice squad.

  20. chesswhileyouplaycheckers says: Sep 14, 2016 7:30 PM

An undrafted rookie FA that was cut before Bridgewater went down or there was even a game plan in place for a game against TN never mind GB was probably a real fountain of info to an opponent that faces MN twice a year that is running Norv Been Around Forever Turner’s offense.
    Vikes fans…smh
    An AFC Guy

  21. wtfru2 says: Sep 14, 2016 7:30 PM

He just got used! Too bad it was that nice, considerate, “family”, team that used him.

  22. h0metownzero says: Sep 14, 2016 7:36 PM

He managed to decipher Norv’s offense within the confines of a 140 character Twitter post.

  24. dirtyhelmet says: Sep 14, 2016 7:42 PM

Wow, tough break. I thought he actually showed a little promise in the preseason, but really had little chance with the Vikings, as stacked as they are. That has to sting. If you can’t run the ball for the packers, you probably don’t have a spot in the NFL.

  25. mnvikes1961 says: Sep 14, 2016 7:43 PM

I’m surprised he couldn’t hold on to a spot on the Packers O.

He probably looked like a stud against that High School level defense.

That technically true without being accurate.

Unlike the previous binge of signing ex-packers like Jennings, Longwell, Sharper who were signed in a partial attempt to keep them from resigning with GB (which is admittingly a stupid way to build a team), Johnson was signed due to his time with the Browns and with Norv Turner there.

  30. crownofthehelmet says: Sep 14, 2016 8:34 PM

  31. 2ruefan says: Sep 14, 2016 8:37 PM

    Wake up clueless Packer backers…
This is NOT about who takes whose “Sloppy seconds” etc.

They picked him up for intel on the Vikings and have already gotten what they need and then cut him.

Classy. Probably lied to him about his opportunity, etc.

  32. immafubared says: Sep 14, 2016 8:38 PM

  37. ajd4 says: Sep 15, 2016 12:52 AM

I would be on board with using that roster spot on CJ Spiller as long as he has no baggage, seems like a good change of pace for the Pack.

  38. minnesotamuggs says: Sep 15, 2016 8:31 AM

Are many of you actually implying that a released, undrafted rookie had valuable information for the Packers about the Vikings? These types of statements speak very poorly about the intelligence of either the people commenting on this, or the Packers coaching staff… Everyone can make up their own minds as to which.

I’d love to hear some elaborations as to what valuable information can be obtained from this guy… Dude has zero first team reps and has never been apart of a legitimate game plan.

    ^^^^^^^

Johnson was drafted in the 7th round by the Packers. He was cut during the last cuts and sent to the Packers’ practice squad. We was an Ex-Packer.

  40. vikingguy55 says: Sep 15, 2016 4:58 PM

Well this player has good accelleration and the Packers seem to have gotten what they needed out of him but this reeks of what a classless organization does instead of building their own team and concentrating on that they try to inhibit the other team! There is only one problem not only did getting this player for a short time not reveal anything but actually wasted their time when they realize that the p[roblem is that their team is not getting better just older and more predictable, the packers are frail and their depth is wanting all over this team and when they get to that new stadium, what a stadium really looks like they will lose to the Vikings!
