Anthony Davis sheds no light on absence, calls benching “coach’s decision”

It would have been neat and tidy if 49ers coach Chip Kelly’s assertion that the “miscommunication” with former starting right tackle Anthony Davis had been “ironed out.”

But Davis himself did nothing to clarify that notion when asked about the situation Wednesday.

Via Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com, Davis was asked if he wanted to clear up what happened, but he said: “Just leave it and let it fester.”

Davis didn’t practice Saturday, and the 49ers said it was “not injury related.” He returned to practice Sunday, after reports that he was considering retirement. Then Andrew Tiller started at right guard against the Rams, leaving Davis on the bench.

Davis referred to that as “coach’s decision,” and said he considers himself a tackle and a guard now. Trent Brown has taken over as the starting right tackle, which left Davis as one of the two active backups against the Rams.

“As one of the linemen who are dressing, we have to be able to play guard and tackle,” Davis said.

The lack of clarity on what actually happened lends an ominous tone to the conversation. Davis sat out last year, and it seems reasonable to surmise he’s not thrilled with the current situation there.

ummm…I think the coach calls this “committed”…if you are not ALL IN, how can the coach trust you on the field to protect the QB or Do Your Job…just show up for half the practises, part of a season, when you want…How is it NOT clear to him what happened here?

They’d better get him back on the court soon. Without Anthony Davis, the Pelicans have no shot.

We may never know what actually happened but for as how much double talk an innuendo spun by AD and coaches, it sounds like there is enough blame on both sides to just call the whole thing a wash. Time to move on..

I feel for the guy, stuck in the Santa Clara wasteland.

Seems quite clear to me: The 49ers are Browns level dysfunctional right now, and Davis doesn’t want to give his best years as an athlete to an organization that is going to be a perennial loser for years.

Leave him on the bench. If he does need to play due to other injuries, he’s not a bad backup to have.

But as a starter that cannot be relied on? He’d better sit.

Dudes a malcontent. He walked away from the game last year about supposed concussions, the. She. The checks stopped coming he decided he wanted to play. Now it appears Jenna’s one foot in the water. No I’m not sore if it’s from lack of dedication or maybe he is genuinely trying to not get hurt and milk it for whatever he can. He cannot continue this though.

Niner fans will find out what Eag fans already did.

Chippy isn’t racist – just plays favorites based on who will bend over furthest while attesting to his greatness.

This works in college where kids will do anything necessary for a shot at the NFL, but won’t work with grown men.

On top of it, the chosen few arse kissers will be run down by a gimmick system and get destroyed late in the year all while Chip keeps filling his fat face and blaming everyone else.

    Dumpster fire coming.
