Darrelle Revis didn’t know Marquise Goodwin was a track star (he does now)

Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis learned something last night: Bills receiver Marquise Goodwin is a track star.

Goodwin got behind Revis for an 84-yard catch-and-run touchdown on the first throw of the night from Bills quarterback Tyrod Taylor. After the game, Revis was asked about Goodwin’s speed.

“He’s fast. He’s definitely fast,” Revis told reporters. “He’s just a fast receiver. I don’t know if he’s a track star, but he’s just a fast receiver.”

Asked if he’d be surprised to learn Goodwin was a member of the USA’s track and field team at the London Olympics in 2012, Revis said, “No, I wouldn’t be surprised. I definitely wouldn’t.”

Coach Todd Bowles told reporters that Revis was in zone coverage on the play. Regardless, Revis tried to run with Goodwin and couldn’t. Which means that he’ll be tested more and more by teams with better receivers than Goodwin.

That’s not to say Goodwin is a slouch, but he isn’t nearly as accomplished as last night’s play would suggest. Whether he builds on that moment remains to be seen.

Darrelle should’ve known his wife’s name, his kids names, what college he went to etc etc. Revis is not very good.

You should know your opponent at least a little better than that

Hes a long jumper – does not qualify for any event involving running or sprinting – Didnt even qualify for long jumping this past Olympics.

But yea, hes fast, so are a lot of guys.

23 mph is pretty much as fast as they get. Revis probably clocks in at 20 on his best day.

Seriously? Goodwin is the fastest player in the league. If Revis doesn’t know that, then he shouldn’t be getting paid 16m a season.

Here’s the truth, and I know you Jets fans don’t like hearing it…

Revis got paid, and he got lazy. I have to say, I thought New England were fools not to pay him. But after seeing what he’s turned into I have to begrudgingly (I’m a Giants fan) tip my cap to them for letting him go in favor of a guy they are paying more than 15m LESS.

TRevis should be ashamed of himself for the lack of professionalism he’s displayed by not keeping himself in shape and living up to his end of the deal the Jets gave him. I’ve lost a lot of respect for this guy.

If I managed a team that had a $15M a year corner, he’d better damn well know something about who he has to cover. Revis sounds lazy now.

So if the offense runs a 60 minute-long pass play, Revis is toast by several miles.

Don’t sell yourself short Goodwin, you are a tremendous slouch.

You guys do realize that NFL players study each other by watching film, right? They don’t just read wikipedia pages of each other for fun lmao.

That play (and last week’s game) were why the Pats let him walk after the 2014 season. The guy is not worth over $15,000,000 a year any more and Bill knew it!

  12. jimnaizeeum says: Sep 16, 2016 12:33 PM

Don’t sell him short, he’s an incredible slouch.

I still don’t buy into the Revis decline. AJ Green is one of the best receivers in the league. He caught on long TD when the safety didn’t drop, and made an unbelievable catch with Revis draped all over him.

Goodwin is a fast guy, who ran in a straight line. Revis has had issues with those type of receivers (ie. Ted Ginn) but holds up against quality receivers.

  14. weepingjebus says: Sep 16, 2016 12:37 PM

Revis has looked slower, but I think part of is mental. He hesitates more and doesn’t seem to anticipate plays. Could be a preparation issue, like not knowing how fast this guy is. Whether he focuses again is the question.

  15. jm91rs says: Sep 16, 2016 12:39 PM

Man, I’ve been sticking up for Revis, but he really didn’t know he was lining up against a guy that was an Olympic Sprinter? You gotta think that if your physical skills start to decline you’d at least be sharp mentally.

  16. bobthebillsfan says: Sep 16, 2016 12:39 PM

The patsies usually let star players go a year or so before they begin to slow down and I was concerned the Bills (Rex) would make a play for him and pay big $ for short term gain. I’m glad it worked out the way it did.

  17. bonitalocal says: Sep 16, 2016 12:41 PM

If Revis was still a Patriot, (which I am glad that he is not), you can bet your bottom dollar that he would have known about Goodwin’s speed.
Belichick really is so far ahead of all of the other coaches. It is really cool to watch.

  18. 700levelvet says: Sep 16, 2016 12:47 PM

Revis got burnt like toast… Everyone saw it… He’s old fat and PAID… He’s just playing the game…

  19. rutchaser says: Sep 16, 2016 12:52 PM

Revis has made too much money and now has nothing to work for. That is the fault of NFL owners who have paid him, not his.

  20. milkcan44 says: Sep 16, 2016 12:55 PM

Apparently there’s a mental “Revis Island” also.

  22. 8to80texansblog says: Sep 16, 2016 1:02 PM

Revis island is starting to look more like a continent.

Heard in training camp Revis and Marshall got into a fight because Marshall called Revis out for faking an injury after Deandre Hopkins torched him last year.

  23. whenwilliteverend says: Sep 16, 2016 1:10 PM

All the hate for Revis. I don’t really care but I don’t think it’s deserved. However, I do fault him for not realizing that Goodwin was very fast. If he had known that maybe he would have defended that deep route differently. In other words, he was not prepared for that and it cost them a touchdown. To be fair, there are probably very few corners, if any, that can run with Goodwin. He should have known that. In a close game, an oversight like that could have cost his team a game.

  24. jetsjetsjetsnow says: Sep 16, 2016 1:20 PM

Thats pretty lame for a corner in general, nevertheless Mevis not to know the speed of your opponents!

    Very lame…. Lazy even?

  25. karlpk says: Sep 16, 2016 1:22 PM

Can’t comment on whether Revis will ever be as effective as he once was but laughed out loud at finding he didn’t know Goodwin was a track star – not a DB in the league who could stop a guy that fast getting hit in the hands in full stride so there’s no shame there but he really should know who he’s covering better – kind of his job – hope Goodwin gets better soon

  26. jackedupboonie says: Sep 16, 2016 1:30 PM

Just look at how he played that toss up ball where he was deeper and in better position to intercept……he coasted back pedaling and just acted like he was waiting to return a punt. That play alone summed up where Revis is mentally with competing on the field.

  27. intrafinesse says: Sep 16, 2016 1:51 PM

    Revis got OVERpaid.
He’s not lazy, he’s just slowed down with age.
He’s still a good CB, but not great.

I think you need to dig a little further into the stats to see just how badly Green abused him.

Just two short years ago, Revis had this same guy locked down to the point where he actually tapped out of the game. It was that now infamous “On to Cincinnati” game. Revis erased him completely.

And all this jibber jabber about how he’s lost a step with age IS nonsense. What’s he 31?? Come on. It’s a not so well kept secret that he’s shown up in camp out of shape the last two seasons. The guy got fat and happy.

It’s the old Lenox Lewis quote epitomized.

It’s hard to get yourself to wake up and train, when you’re sleeping under silk sheets.

i implore you to go check the tape. Or just visit pro football focus. Revis doesn’t even grade out as average right now. He’s getting beat like a drum. Opposing receivers are salavating at the thought of getting him in man coverage.

  30. dynaco says: Sep 17, 2016 1:08 AM

What is salavating ??? I implore you to check a dictionary.
Believe it or not but as a former receiver, we want to go against the VERY BEST corner each team fields.

  31. ibillwt says: Sep 17, 2016 5:29 AM

That “cheater” Belichick would have told him so.

  32. gizzmonic says: Sep 17, 2016 10:58 AM

when all your time is spent counting money, your work will suffer. How could he know so little about the receivers we would be faceing. The Bills are not only in the same division as the Jets , but they are in the same dam state.

    Trash talking Woodson in 2009…
Woodson in his mid-late 30s was having Defensive Player of the Year caliber seasons…

Revis in his early 30s looking like scorched earth.
