Xavier Rhodes, Sharrif Floyd out this week

GLENDALE, AZ - DECEMBER 10: Defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd #73 of the Minnesota Vikings on the sidelines during the NFL game against the Arizona Cardinals at the University of Phoenix Stadium on December 10, 2015 in Glendale, Arizona. The Vikings started the week with a long list of injured players and coach Mike Zimmer announced Friday that at least two of them are going to miss Sunday’s game against the Packers.

Cornerback Xavier Rhodes will be out for the second straight week because of a knee injury suffered just before the team beat the Titans last Sunday. Trae Waynes joined Terence Newman in the starting lineup with Captain Munnerlyn joining them in sub packages.

That trio will have to be sharp against Aaron Rodgers and company and they’ll have to do it without any help from defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd up front. Floyd, who played 25 snaps in the opener, is also dealing with a knee injury and missed practice all this week.

Left tackle Matt Kalil returned to practice on Friday after missing the first two days to rest a hip injury. Zimmer didn’t rule him out, which would seem to make him a pretty good bet to play in the first game at the Vikings’ new home.

Patterson and Locke are the only 2 others that were drafted that year that are still on the roster. So in 2013 Spielmen cultivated 3 1st round selections and a Punter.

Next man up, vike fans. No excuses.

Seems like Floyd misses half the games and is playing hurt in the other half. He’d be great if he could ever stay healthy but it looks like that’s never going to happen.

Rhodes would have shadowed Jordy Nelson all over the field and has the size to be physical with him at the line. Waynes is going to have to step up big time to slow him down.

I guess we will miss Lacy running over Rhodes like he’s not even standing there. Floyd on the other hand is a pretty good player and I would rather have him in there so if the Packers do win, we wouldn’t have to listen to the endless excuses on who is hurt and missed the game.

The Packers defense nearly equal to the Vikings.
    )))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
    Broncos 23- Vikings 20

    Broncos 29 – packers 10

    Arizona 23 – Vikings 20

(On a short week too – the Vikings played the late afternoon game Sunday and then played Thursday night). Please just stop your defense isn’t close at all.

Okay, but Gerald Hodges was traded for a player and a draft pick and the other players no longer with the team were sixth- and seventh-round picks.

Now let’s look at the 2012 draft for the Packers. You still have Nick Perry and Mike Daniels. Two second-round picks and four others are no longer with the team. That isn’t too impressive, either.

Gerald Hodges was traded to San Fran and is a starter there, and the 6th rd and three 7th rounders didn’t make the team with isn’t unusual… your point?

Packers have only 5 left, 3 starters & 2 backups, including their 1st round pick that year, Datone Jones!

    What a bust!

So don’t break your arm patting your team on the back for their 2013 draft, Packers fans!

Floyd is constantly hurt. Your best ability is availability and he doesn’t have that. Another year of missing 2 games and playing a half until it happens again. Taking up roster space.

  19. tjacks7 says: Sep 16, 2016 3:59 PM

No worries. I’m sure even playing with 2 back ups this defense can slow down the NFLs 24th ranked offense. Rest up for Carolina guys.

You mean the game where AZ’s defense scored two touchdowns? You might want to check more than just the scores if you’re looking for a game where GB’s defense gave up a massive amount of points.

    _________________

Since draft picks initially get four year contracts, comparing the 2012 draft to the 2013 draft is not really the same thing. Packers got their money’s worth out of Casey Hayward, but have the secondary depth where they didn’t need to shell out to retain him (a la Davon House).

  27. ccous13 says: Sep 16, 2016 4:34 PM

Sucks that the Vikes won’t be 100%, not that they could be anyways without Teddy, but it will be downright embarrassing if the Pack loses and I’ll be right back here to say good game Vikes if it happens. But there is absolutely no way it should.

    ________

Retaining players doesn’t real much when they play like Patterson.

While the 2012 class doesn’t have anything to do with this there, I will let you know the HUGE difference between those two classes.

While players may not be on the GB roster are still in the NFL, like Hayward who went to the Chargers to get paid, so your going to “claim” that is a bad pick because he isn’t on the team?

If you ant to compare those classes in an apple to apples matter here is the BIG difference, Most of the players that aren’t on GB, are viewed as NFL talents, as evidence of them still being in the NFL. While players that aren’t on the Vikings are playing in Canadian and Arena Leagues/

That’s not apples to apples. All picks from ’12, outside of first rounders, have expired rookie contracts. If you compare the ’13 class, all players would still be in the last year of their rookie deals this season, The Vikings have the three 1st rounders and a punter. The Packers have (1) Datone Jones, (2) Eddie Lacy, (4a) David Bakhtiari, (4b) JC Tretter, (5a) Micah Hyde still on the roster. That’s 4 starting players and a valuable sub package defender. You can’t objectively deny which team had the better draft in ’13. Heck, even a 7th rounder of ours from that draft is on your team outperforming Patterson (Charles Johnson).

  30. In Teddy We Trust says: Sep 16, 2016 5:09 PM

Okay, but none of this is apples to apples. You have five guys picked in the first five rounds still on your roster. We have four guys picked in the sixth and seventh round not on the roster.

Datone Jones is a first round pick who is still on your roster, but he’s a gigantic bust. Rhodes and Floyd are both way better than Jones.

So congratulations on having a better 2013 draft, if that’s what you want to conclude. Now look at all the drafts from the last 10 years and tell me which team had the better draft more often.

  31. deltaoracle says: Sep 16, 2016 5:16 PM

Deepest depth on defense in the NFL, no worries for the Vikings…it truly is next man up with them. Rollins will give up a minimum of 2 TDs as the Packer corner.

  33. LombardisHouse says: Sep 16, 2016 7:05 PM

If Rollins gives up 2 touchdowns to a team that hasn’t scored an offensive touchdown in their last 2 games then he should be cut on the spot.

Also, fmc651 conveniently leaves out the regular season comparison against Seattle for both teams. Probably because the Seattle offense put up 38 on the Vikings. Disingenuous.

Floyd is rarely available and Tom Johnson is a better player anyway. This will not be a loss. The Vikings should not resign Floyd after this year. Rhodes however will be missed. But I think the Vikings secondary can still be effective.

    Hey guys!

    Big time VIKES guy hear.

    This is not good.

The Packers allowed 1.9 yards per carry and Peterson couldn’t even get 1.4 yards per carry against a worst defense!

Now we’re down the only guy that could cover Jordy Nelson?

I have a bad fealing about this game…I don’t know how my fello vikes fans have so much confidence. smh

  43. 13worldchampioinships says: Sep 17, 2016 12:15 PM

The biggest thing that concerns me is Trae Waynes and his frisky hands.

I was watching the GB -vs- Jag game last week and I told my (Packer) buddies that the most frustrating thing about watching the Packers is when they are down with 1 minute to go in the first half. They always seem to score. Typically because they will get at least 1, 60+ yard pass interference play. Ironically, the very next play after I made that statement was a 40+yard PI play in favor of the Packers. If you saw the game you remember what play I’m referring to.

Trae needs to play smart if he is beat. He needs to keep his hands off the WR with hopes that he will drop it. Especially if it is Adams, because Aaron sniffs that out 10/10 times.

  46. xlvbonanzai says: Sep 17, 2016 11:02 PM

The Vikings are destined to lose this game anyway. That QB situation is too much to overcome with a brand new Sam Bradford learning the offense. GB will disguise looks and confuse the hell out of him. Not his fault or the Vikes…Sam Sheilds is out, which is more impacting than these two.

The next game will be more of a contest.

  47. fmc651 says: Sep 18, 2016 3:41 PM

I’d say the team with consistent playoff chokes in the last 10 years!! Zero OT victories.
