Browns center Erving remains hospitalized with pulmonary contusion

Cameron Erving AP

Browns center Cameron Erving suffered a pulmonary contusion and will remain hospitalized overnight for observation, the team announced Sunday night.

Erving was taken to the hospital after Sunday’s game, which he left during the game’s final drive. He was hospitalized after experiencing cramps and discomfort in his chest and ribs, and further testing revealed what’s essentially a bruised lung caused by chest trauma.

A first-round pick in 2015, Erving is in his first season as the team’s starting center.

I saw the play. He went for a downfield block and it looked like whiffed on the dive landing on his chest. It did not look that bad hope he gets better soon.

Guy was having quite possibly the worst game a center has ever played in the NFL. I feel bad that he got hurt. But I bet whoever McCown’s backup is is glad he will have a new center for at least a week.

Guess I owe an apology. I thought it was a slowing tactic to give the offense more time to figure out what to do next. Hope he heals quickly and gets back on the field.

The offense was forced to use a timeout. That tactic doesn’t work and hasn’t worked in the past 5 years.

Guy whiffed on a block and landed on the ground and has to go to the hospital? I thought he knocked the wind out of himself, but that is just crazy. We need a new center. This guy is too soft.
