Greg Roman denies “buffoon” comment: I respect Rex Ryan

Greg Roman AP

Despite reports that Greg Roman and Rex Ryan weren’t seeing eye to eye before Ryan fired Roman as the Bills’ offensive coordinator, Roman says he actually respects his former boss.

Roman told Alex Marvez of Sporting News that reports he called Ryan a “buffoon” and said other disparaging things about Ryan are “damnable lies.”

“I have nothing but respect for coach Ryan and I thought we had a great working relationship,” Roman said. “We met and he informed me of his decision. I thought it was handled very professionally. We then discussed how we could best make this work for everybody moving forward.”

Clearly, Roman and Ryan weren’t entirely on the same page: A head coach doesn’t fire his offensive coordinator two games into the season unless there are some problems beyond just the 0-2 start. But Roman wants it known that he was a loyal soldier. Even if some would say, given the results in Buffalo this season, that he’d be justified if he thinks Ryan is a buffoon.

People are going to run with it anyways. But with sports media virtually just making things up, you rarely know what’s true anymore.

The ONLY buffoon here is REX RYAN

Company line so he can get another job

No matter if Roman said it or not, it’s true. Ryan is a buffoon and a lot more than that.

First time anyone has ever said that.

There are lies and there are “damnable” lies.

Another job? Nobody is gonna pay him more than the Bills will over the next 2 seasons. He can afford to be picky.

“I didn’t call him a buffoon. I said he was an imbecile. Then he asked me what imbecile’ means.”

Well that’s a damn shame because 99% of America loves the buffoon comment.

    Dumpster fire.

Sincerely, a 32 year old life long Bills fan…

Calling Wrecks a buffoon is insulting to buffoons.

Some things just go without saying – Greg Roman

While there appears to be little disagreement about Rex Ryan’s personality. He does have one of the 32 most desirable jobs in America, and we don’t

Damage control. Roman doesn’t want any potential future employers thinking he is undermining his future bosses.

The only reason I’m sure this guy called Ryan a buffoon is because it’s actually the perfect description of both the Ryan brothers. They are simply loud-mouthed buffoons.

There is no better word to use. He said it. 99% of the league has said it about him and his brother. All talk, all clown act, no substance.

  16. beerbratscheese says: Sep 18, 2016 3:53 PM

Then I’ll say it: Rex Ryan is a buffoon.

I’m not a huge fan of Greg Roman’s play calling or the obvious formations he used. I felt it was clear the opposing d knew where the play was headed. I do find it curious though when the offense scores 31 and Rex’s d gives up 37 and 500 yards of offence why the OC should be fired? I think I would have been more happy seeing Rex fired and Roman named HC but still wouldn’t be happy. It’s going to be a very long September until Sabres season starts. Funny part is during the Super Bowl years Sabres season didn’t start until January. Now we’re looking forward Sabres preseason. Their tank is ended while the Sabres tank is about to begin.

Calling Rex Ryan a buffoon is simply being charitable. Ryan is a good coordinator, but a lousy–and highly verbose–head coach. He will be fired by week 8, if not sooner, I predict.

It’s the fans that call rex a buffoon.

  21. curmudgeon13 says: Sep 18, 2016 4:55 PM

    The Buffalo buffoons…..

  22. paulieorkid says: Sep 18, 2016 7:55 PM

The word “buffoon” is underrated, and should be mixed into the convo more often, as in, ‘Egad, that orange-faced buffoon running for the office of POTUS has a seventeen-word vocabulary.”

  23. carloswlassiter says: Sep 18, 2016 9:59 PM

I’d say a HC that fires his offensive coordinator after a pathetic defensive performance is the very definition of a buffoon.

  24. intellectualpenury says: Sep 18, 2016 10:23 PM

Greg Roman should have traded the “om” in his last name for a “y”. Then he’d have gotten a four-year extension
