Jimmy Garoppolo leaves game with shoulder injury, questionable

The Patriots are down to their last healthy quarterback, as Jimmy Garoppolo left the game with a shoulder injury.

He had already given his side a 21-0 lead over the Dolphins, but left the game after taking a hard fall on his throwing shoulder.

He has been replaced by rookie Jacoby Brissett, their third-round pick and only backup while Tom Brady is serving game two of his four-game suspension.

Garoppolo was driven into the ground by Dolphins linebacker Kiko Alonso, and went to the locker room under his own power. The team has announced his return as questionable.

it was a straight up rookie mistake, knowing that youve got ONE stone cold rookie behind you to roll out and take a hit like that

Garoppolo was clearly seriously hurt, possibly a broken collarbone

Brady just got his job back

Damn, that means the Pats will only win by 20 points instead of 30…

Too bad. He looked like the real deal.

Pats will be ok. They have the 3rd best qb in the afc east backing up jimmy

That’s ok. Miami still has Tannehill. We’re good.

big deal….now they have to win with the 3rd best QB in the division!

Kiko Alonzo is a stud DB who is trending back towards dominance after a difficult knee rehab…. loved him as a Duck and am glad to see him ending seasons and crushing dreams out there.

It seems so easy in the NFL to get a QB out of a game. The hit looked clearly intentional to hurt the QB after the throw.

“So – who is the emergency QB?”

Julian Edelman. He was a QB in college before converting to kick receiver with the Pats.

  16. shadywarrior says: Sep 18, 2016 2:38 PM

Trade value still looking tight though, he went out on fire, and now no annoying Brady trade talk on sports radio all week. Ride this one out, can still make it out of the suspension alive at 2-2 or 3-1 at worst. Feel bad for him, he was looking like Player of the Week.

Dolphins fans are really quiet. What happened to chippy and venerableaxiom talking about how they will beat the pats

Meant to say before Edelman converted to kick returner and receiver

  21. harshedmellow says: Sep 18, 2016 2:43 PM

On a brighter note (than Alonso crushing Grappolo), this was probably the best damn thing that could happen to Jimmy G. He showed just enough to intrigue other teams, but not so much that he got exposed, and now he’ll be mothballed until 2017 and beyond… he’ll get paid in a couple years.

  22. Kelly's Chronicles says: Sep 18, 2016 2:43 PM

If you saw the play he got hurt on you know he is done today. But the thing I admire about the Pats is they manage to get it done regardless of the adversity they face. And no not a Pats fan. Packers fan actually

Kind of like the way the Patriots are crushing Miami’s dreams. Going on 18 years without a playoff win.

  24. friscokid49 says: Sep 18, 2016 2:46 PM

Pats will still destroy the Afc East with rookie 3rd string qb.

That is why they have won 7 straight Afc East Division championship.
    Bills have Kap 2.0
    Jets have Fitz or geno
Fins have a college WR as qb

So, without finishing 2nd week of season, the patriots are in the playoffs. Now they only have to work for the bye.

  25. mediasloppy says: Sep 18, 2016 2:50 PM

This will put the theory that the Patriots can plug and play based on their “system” if Brissett, a raw rookie can game manage a convincing win if he ends up playing the second half.

So high one moment and then next thing you know your world comes crashing down around you. I hope I am wrong but you could see it in Jimmy’s face; sure was grimacing out there. First thing I thought about was Romo’s collar bone…

  27. belicheckisgod says: Sep 18, 2016 2:53 PM

For the first time in 16 years Pats fans have seen two qbs play in one game not named Brady…. Crazy.

Still hoping JimmyG ends up being the Bears QB in the next year or two.

  29. patsfan4lifesbchamps says: Sep 18, 2016 2:58 PM

Why are people calling Denver’s defense dirty when Miami’s defense has already hurt 2 QBs in two games?

  30. YouCryin?PatsMustBeDoingTheirJob says: Sep 18, 2016 3:02 PM

Blount TD run. You hear that Miami? That’s pride, slamming the door and leaving you.

The Patriots could win games with Peewee Herman as their QB. Didn’t they go 11-5 the one year Tom Brady got hurt in the first game and have Matt Cassell as their QB that season?
