Jimmy Garoppolo won’t return for Patriots after shoulder injury

New England Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (10) receives attention after an injury during the first half of an NFL football game against the Miami Dolphins Sunday, Sept. 18, 2016, in Foxborough, Mass. (AP Photo/Steven Senne) AP

Jimmy’s down. And out for the rest of the day.

Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo won’t return after suffering a right shoulder injury in the second quarter, the team announced.

That leaves Jacoby Brissett as the only remaining quarterback for the Patriots, since they were carrying just two during Tom Brady’s suspension. Wide receiver Julian Edelman, a college quarterback at Kent State would be their emergency quarterback.

Garoppolo was brilliant before leaving after being drilled to the ground by Dolphins linebacker Kiko Alonso. He was 18-of-27 for 234 yards and three touchdowns, and the Patriots had a commanding 24-3 halftime lead.

That’s ok. Belichick can win with anybody. Have always said whining, crying, screaming ,bullying, cheating Brady is overrated and made a career out og 5 yard slants to Welker and Edelman.

Well at least it wont be 56-3 now. Maybe Miami gets lucky and it ends up being just 38-10 and it turns into some type of moral victory for Miami.

Yeah, throwing 5 yard slants has been so unsuccessful for the team. They should give it up and throw deep. Wasn’t that the philosophy of Al Davis and the Raiders. Yeah, that is the way to win games!

    _____________

Nope. Have always given BB his props. Ever since he went 11-5 with Cassel. I never caref for his dour manner or some of his questionable tactics or the way he went to the locker room and left his team in the field to finish the 2007 Super Bowl without him but I’ve always said he’s a genius football mind. Brady has been riding his coat tails his entire career.

Brady’s strongest quality is his longevity. He shows up every week. If he had an injury history and missed 3 or 4 games every few years then nobody would be calling him the GOAT because they would have seen no drop off when he was out. Just like last couple weeks. And now with a 3rd stringer.

Belichick’s coaching tree stinks. When players and coaches leave they never have the same success as with BB. Same would be true with Brady. At least we know Peyton can win with any coach of any team.

A couple of things. The idea that Brady is the product of a system because Jimmy G., playing in the same system, looks good, isn’t as obvious as the haters seem to think it is. The more commonsensical and obvious conclusion is that Jimmy G. can play. A lot of folks thought so the year he was drafted.

Secondly, and I’m looking at the silver lining of the injury situation here, but Jimmy G. is probably going to be traded before the 2017-2018 season. Now’s NE’s chance to find out if Jacoby Brissett’s good enough to take over when TB retires. Whenever that may be.

  36. lanman11 says: Sep 18, 2016 4:35 PM

Garoppolo had that team running like a freight train. That was going to be a 45-3 laugher until he went down. After that, nobody could catch the ball and sustain drives. They will likely experience the same thing when Brady comes back. The ball just arrives different than the receivers are used to and there is an adjustment period. Brady comes back in Cleveland and the Pats don’t play well there. It may be a more interesting game than people think. The Garoppolo injury looks like it will keep him out for a while, so it’s Jacoby Brissett for now. He’s got three days to prepare for another game. Too bad for Jimmy. It would have been nice to see him light up the Texans in another prime time game. If Brissett can play well enough, and the Pats can pull Brady off the shelf at 4-0, it will seem like an embarrassment of riches. Not for me though….

    __________

How about Montana? No effect on KC. His highlight was a Monday Night Football game against Elway. Hardly turning another franchise around. Brady wouldn’t forget anything. He would simply be an average qb yelling at his lineman, screaming at his receivers, whining to officials, crying for Gronk and wishing he was back with Belichick so he could have a serviceable workbethic and winning game plan. That’s all I’m saying.

  38. lanman11 says: Sep 18, 2016 4:40 PM

I heard this “System QB” all day at the bar I watched the game in. They have good coaching, and they have good players, but the QB has to be good. You can’t win without those three elements. The year Cassell played, they had a very easy schedule and lost games they should have won to keep them from losing a tie breaker for the playoffs. Garoppolo, for as well as he has played, has not faced defenses that have a decent supply of film on him. He has not had to bring them back from a large deficit on the road, in a big game, with playoff implications, or in the playoffs or Super Bowl. He’s not Tom Brady. But he appears to have potential. That’s all we can say right now. If it were as simple as “a system QB,” why wouldn’t other coaches run this “system?” Why wouldn’t they save money and just use “system QB’s?” Are they just stupid? Remember, this offensive “system” was tried in Denver and St. Louis when McDaniel was coaching there, and it did nothing. Using troller’s logic, that is PROOF it’s not the system.

    ———-

You can’t conflate the two situations. Young is also a hall of fame quarterback. Sometimes that happens. Brady has shown that he’s not required for the offense to be successful. Matt Cassel puts up numbers, a first year starter puts up number. My guess is Matt Cassel isn’t going to be in the hall of fame. Hell, he can’t even start with other teams.

Brady has had incredible success, but the system plays a big part. He is no where near the GOAT, and isn’t even the best of his era. Brady is more Terry Bradshaw, and less Joe Montana.

No matter, Patriots will just stick in another system QB cog in the wheel… same dink slants and dumps, same results.

And the GOAT myth crumbles some more.

By this logic I guess those who call Montana the goat are all wrong too.

Young steps in and they win another SB
    ———-

You can’t conflate the two situations. Young is also a hall of fame quarterback.

But that wasn’t known when he supplanted Montana now was it? making that argument with the benefit of hindsight really falls flat on it’s face.

If teams really had this “system” that faux football smart guys like to chirp about then it wouldn’t matter if was Brady or Manziel behind center.

Now do you get how dumb that sounds?

    It’s exactly the same.

The employee that records the other teams practices for Belli-cheat is gonna have to start working overtime.

Really? The only team that EVER filmed another teams practice and got caught was the Denver Broncos!
Another perfect example of the fan/troll who’s owner/team won’t put in the extra work to become better…

Coach Belichek is a miserable human being, and perhaps the best coach of all time. I’m sure that he has considered the possibilities. The only thing is, even bringing in someone that is familiar with the system, they will be rusty. Matt Flynn or Tim Tebow would be the logical choices, but Tim’s been out of football for over a year, and Flynn isn’t that good. It will be interesting to watch. (I predict that Edelman will be the backup.)
