Rams keep Russell Wilson from leading comeback, hang on for 9-3 win

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, left, is hit by Los Angeles Rams defensive end William Hayes after passing during the first half an NFL football game at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, Sunday, Sept. 18, 2016, in Los Angeles. (AP Photo/Kelvin Kuo) AP

Russell Wilson just couldn’t run.

But it still looked like he had a chance.

The Rams hung on for a 9-3 win over the Seahawks, thanks to a defense that didn’t really let Wilson do anything until the final drive, which ended with a Christine Michael fumble.

The Seahawks were quiet until Wilson uncorked a 53-yard pass to Tyler Lockett late in the fourth quarter. And because Wilson has led so many comebacks, you nearly assumed he was going to again. But Los Angeles was able to keep the pressure on Wilson throughout the game, and coming off an ankle injury, Wilson wasn’t able to move (with just 14 yards on five rush attempts)

But Los Angeles was able to keep the pressure on Wilson throughout the game, and coming off an ankle injury, Wilson wasn’t able to move (with just 14 yards on five rush attempts) enough to make it matter.

On a day without a touchdown, keeping him in check was enough, as Rams kicker Greg Zuerlein outscored Seahawks counterpart Steven Hauschka 3-1.

The Rams are averaging 4.5 points per game this season, but that’s enough to get them to 1-1.

Seattle. Allow me to interrupt your super bowl dreams for a moment. You got outplayed by Miami in week one. Today you lost to the worst coach and quarterback in the league. Think about that for a minute. Jeff Fisher has beaten Pete Carroll on the square 3 out of the last 4 times. Your team doesn’t scare anyone anymore. Period.

Arizona and San Francisco clearly the class of this division.

8-8 here you come tough guys.

The Rams are an enigma, wrapped inside a riddle.

Who’d thought the NFC West would all be tied 1-1.

These games are always low scoring and close. Well done Rams.

Looking forward to another battle when you come up to see us in Seattle.

The Seahawks have the league championship sewn up in the unsportsmanlike losing department. I think Carroll spent more time jawing at the officials then coaching

After a solid week of hearing Seahawk fans trash talk on here this one has to sting.

And now Fisher is at .500, right where he belongs.

  10. motleytrap says: Sep 18, 2016 7:19 PM

    Defense deserved this win.

Looked like 1970s Rams football, exception being the inability to run the ball.

Got to start scoring TDs, or this season gets away from them in a hurry.

  12. scmems07 says: Sep 18, 2016 7:20 PM

Most overrated QB in NFL history, period. Feel bad for the people who actually listened to all the media pundits making Wilson out to be the best thing ever. Once again, carried by Lynch and the defense. No more proof needed than his 1-13 record when the defense plays bad and allows 25+ pts. You can thumbs down me all you want but that record is a fact. Start with the excuses Seattle fans, but your team is 37 seconds and a dropped td from 0-2 against 2 of the “worst teams in the league”.

  13. redandgoldhitman52 says: Sep 18, 2016 7:21 PM

Seahawks fans made fun of the niners for beating the rams 28-0. But seahawks couldn’t beat the rams and only put up 3 lousy points. Lol. Seahawks should be 0-2. Russell Wilson is getting exposed for the mediocre qb he is.

  19. scmems07 says: Sep 18, 2016 7:25 PM

If not for beating a bunch of backup QBs last season, this team would’ve had a losing record last year too. The media buried everyone in Wilson’s last 7 games of the season, but neglect to mention the first 9 when they were 4-5 and Wilson had 10 TDs to 9 turn overs. 6 of the 10 wins last season against 2nd and 3rd string QBs, that is a fact.

But I get it 12th men, his ankle hurt and his o line is bad…… Of course that was never an excuse for luck and tannehill because they never had a defense to bail them out.

Will someone please inform this troll when your QB gets injured in Game One this is what happens? To Wilson’s credit he returned to action in days, and when he should have been mending instead of playing. Bunch of loudmouths not taking facts into account.

Pete, you’d have done better playing the rookie…that’s what he’s there for.

And Michael, the fumble machine as usual.

  22. kamthechancellor says: Sep 18, 2016 7:30 PM

ok let me do the typical trolls a favor and save you time. insert the bandwagon, 2012s, and other boring and played out digs here. horse. dead. very, very yaaaaaaaaaaawn, already. you probably are the type who laughs at your own jokes.

anyways. for some reason the rams always play out of their mind vs seattle at home. they have a knack for getting russell pressured and their d line always pushes sea’s o line around. Tough D showing as usual, my hats off. defensive battle, i enjoyed this game.

seattle sure does miss carpenter and okung.

tough call on the facemask and PI, but there were more glaring issues than that. that wasnt the reason the o line was getting pushed around like it has been all season.

The monster of PC and company neglecting and refusing to upgrade while going bargain shopping on their o line, and expecting tom cable to be a o line miracle worker is rearing its ugly head, and its biting my beloved seahawks in the tail. mix that with bevells predictable play calling, its bad. I was hoping for russel to just make it out of there healthy. luckily theres time to turn it around, but if idefi doesn’t return and make a immeidate difference, than its going to be a very long season. the d did its job both games. that o stinks and it starts with the o line . lets see what PC will do from here!

Luckily, its still early, and there is a 4 way tie in the division, so on to san fran. Go Hawks!!!!!!!!

Time for the 2012’s to comeback and brag about how Wilson is the “greatest QB in NFL history through 3 seasons” meanwhile they ignore things like this.

I’m sure it’s not his fault they only put up 3 points, his QB rating was good…

  29. jaxon51 says: Sep 18, 2016 7:37 PM

Agree with poster above- we are lucky we aren’t 0-2.
Blueprint is and has been out. LOB shell of themselves , too many penalties and don’t get me started about Wilson and that line.

  34. jackedupboonie says: Sep 18, 2016 7:45 PM

  36. sincityhawk says: Sep 18, 2016 7:47 PM

I’m a Seahawks fan and will make mention I have been since the early 80’s. Now for this team that has played 2 games in 2016, it’s going to be a long year with this offensive line and stupid mental mistakes AGAIN! I know some 12’s will jump all over me and remind me that we started 0-2 last year and still made the playoffs, but the difference of making the playoffs and getting home field advantage is losing pathetic games like today’s.

Had to spend a lot of $ on Russell and multiple defenders, and the return is this sorry arse offensive line

  37. atwatercrushesokoye says: Sep 18, 2016 7:47 PM

Once again Jeff Fisher and Greg Williams ring true to their play good against some good teams, play awful against some bad teams, take a bunch of penalties blueprint. Next week they’re in Tampa, the Bucs will probably win 42-6. That’s the Jeff Fisher model.

Fisher always has the number of the “top” NFC West teams. He did it vs Harbaugh and his 9ers and same thing vs the Pete and his Seahawks. The Rams will lose to bad teams and beat good teams, and probably finish somewhere between 6-10 and 9-7. The Seahawks dont look very good after two games and if Wilson has a high ankle sprain they are in trouble.

  49. ariani1985 says: Sep 18, 2016 8:08 PM

Let’s see….Seattle always starts games off slow….so Wilson gets hurt in 3rd quarter of game 1…and now he’s over rated even though he had no lateral movement on a bum ankle. A lot of good teams out there are 1-1. Maybe wait a few more weeks before everyone happily heaps salt on the Seahawks.

Well seahawks fan, those same sorry ass rams embarrassed your team. And all of a sudden there a great team, there a great defense. You guys are a joke. Make up your minds. Niners whoop them 28-0 so they suck and are one of the worst teams in the NFL. This week the rams whoop the seahawks and now you’re saying the rams are great. 😂😂😂😂. Like I said last week, the seahawks will be lucky to sneak in as a wildcard at 8-8, but most likely they’ll be 7-9 and no playoffs. Russell Wilson making 22mil a season is the biggest mistake ever. Barely beats the dolphins who are a joke, and now lose to the rams who are also a joke and you only put up 3 points! !! Seattle better draft a qb with there 1st pick in the next draft. Russells days as an NFL qb are coming to an end just like kaep. They both suck.

Maybe the Hawks o-line never comes together and it’s a lost season. Or maybe they come together and make a super bowl run. Either way, to act like you know the answer after week two is hilarious.
