Long field goal gives Eagles 9-7 halftime lead

The Eagles got their third Caleb Sturgis field goal, a 53-yarder, just before halftime to take a 9-7 lead on the Bears.

Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz has been good, but hasn’t gotten his team in the end zone. A drop by Jordan Matthews on a beautiful deep ball just before the third field goal didn’t help.

Wentz is 15-of-24 for 141 yards. Jay Cutler is 10-of-13 for 145 yards for the Bears, who got the game’s only touchdown on a 1-yard run by Jeremy Langford.

The Bears had just 10 rushing yards in the first half. The Eagles sacked Cutler twice.

So far so good for the rookie. He’s taking what the defense is giving him and not forcing things. If Mathews doesn’t drop the easy pass the Eagles would have a TD on the board.

Hopefully, he can keep it up in the second half.

Man…the ref sure did pick a fine time to swallow his whistle on that 3rd and 20 play that ended the Eagles’ first possession of the second half.

Wentz rolls to his right, gives Agholor a perfect ball and Agholor gets taken out at the knees by a CB who’s not trying for the ball or looking at the ball.

Even Gruden thought it was a penalty.

You can not run through the receiver while not looking back for the ball. The Bears got away with a HUGE pass interfence non-call to get the ball back.

The Eagles have a bunch of wide droppers. Their best receiver is on the practice squad.
