McCown officially week-to-week, which means “good chance” Kessler starts

Browns quarterback Josh McCown has a shoulder injury that Browns coach Hue Jackson described as a deep sprain Monday.

Jackson said McCown is out for this week’s game at Miami, is “week-to-week” going forward and said there’s “a good chance” that third-round rookie Cody Kessler will start this week.

Kessler, who struggled in the preseason, is currently the only other quarterback on the active roster. The Browns added Kevin Hogan, a fifth-round pick of the Chiefs last April, to their practice squad earlier this month.

Jackson said the team will “do everything [it] can” to add another quarterback and would prefer to add one with experience. That indicates the Browns will explore trade opportunities in addition to looking at what’s a thin pool of available veteran free agents.

McCown started vs. the Ravens after opening day starter Robert Griffin was placed on injured reserve. McCown suffered some sort of shoulder or arm injury in the first quarter vs. the Ravens and was taken to the locker room but finished the game.

Jackson said he believes Kessler will be ready to play Sunday and that promoting Hogan from the practice squad is “a possibility” dependent upon what other moves the team makes.

Two QB’s out in 2 weeks both with a left shoulder injury. Sounds to me they need to bring in some free agents to play Right Tackle STAT!

Griffin hurt his running out of bounds…don’t think a right tackle would help that.

Didn’t see how Josh hurt his.

I’m a USC fan (yes, pity me), and I can tell you that Kessler is a clipboard-holder at best. He is Captain Checkdown/Captain Bubble Screen. The Browns are officially in trouble….as if that was ever really in doubt.

It’s about time another team dumped Bradford.

    Hang tight

Cody Kessler was reported as the biggest reach of the last draft and saw things last week that he is no where close to ready. He gets to proved evertone wrong. Poor Josh Gordon owners..

Maybe exactly what is needed. Tom Brady, I believe, actually holds the title of Captain checkdown, underneath throws and quick passing game. And I’m not saying that’s a bad thing. High percentage, low turnovers. Just get it to the right guy at the right time.

    We’ll see…

I guess it’s a good thing the Browns have so many ‘top 20 QB’s’ on their roster, otherwise people might be pissed that they passed on Wentz… oh, wait…

In the last 5 games, the Browns have had 5 different starting QBs! 5!!! Somebody call Vinny Testeverde. We’re going to need him in a few weeks. Ugh… Just pour me another!
