Randy Gregory drops appeal, suspended 14 games

Cowboys defensive end Randy Gregory will be suspended for the first 14 games of the season.

Gregory, who is currently serving a four-game suspension that started in Week One, has decided not to appeal a subsequent 10-game suspension, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

There were multiple incorrect reports two weeks ago saying that Gregory had won the appeal of the 10-game suspension and would return in Week Five. That is not the case.

So now Gregory, who dropped in last year’s draft over character concerns, will miss at least 14 games and the bye week before he is eligible to return in Week 16. Realistically, it’s hard to imagine that he would return in good enough shape to contribute immediately, and so it appears that this will be a lost season for Gregory.

My guess is he failed something again.

Might be the best thing for him, he has all the talent in the world but that isn’t worth a spit if he doesn’t get his life in order and his mind right.

    Lol priorities bruh.

And yet Lame Johnson is still running around not suspended. Ped v. Substance issue or what? Regardless, Gregory needs to get it together–only need to pass one test a year and rest of the year you can smoke all you want, it isn’t complicated, may others have figured this out–get it together man!

Credit to Gregory for realizing that some things are just more important than football.
He’s stayed true to his roots and he won’t be something that he’s not just because everyone says he should.
Can’t get more authentic and genuine than that.

If he were allowed on the field, I bet he would take a knee for the anthem too.

Denying gainful employment and potentially crippling long-term employment prospects is a great way to help someone get their life back on track!

wow.. too bad! said “I shoot myself” talib. guess character issues matter when you are a cowboy – not so much when you dress in the orange donkey gear.

He had 11 tackles total and zero sacks through 12 games last year… I disagree on the level of talent he possesses. Overwhelming bust and in record time.

My guess is the Cowboys are putting him in a program similar to what Dez Bryant had, and using the suspension to have Gregory hit the weight room and watch film (both which he is allowed to do) so if Dallas has a record anywhere near what they need for the playoffs, he can come in on passing downs.

Anyone who watched him play last season knows he needs to continue to put on some muscle and 10 weeks in the weight room with the team will help.

All of your teams have drug users. Some caught; some not. At least Jerry gave him a chance, unlike your GM.

Cut him. And waive Romo too.

He’s not worried, Libs have promised to take care of him so he doesn’t have to work.

Who saw this coming? Pretty much everyone except for Jerruh.

  19. stinkymcmulligan says: Sep 19, 2016 6:11 PM

Randy Gregory felt ‘disrespected’ being taken so low in the draft few years ago. This is why he was passed over and over and over.

Now his teammates feel ‘disrespected’. Fraud.

What point does that prove, except that you have to be a monumental moron to get caught? To get caught twice? So quickly that the suspensions can run concurrently?

Another draft gem picked by Jerry.
May you live forever Jerry, signed by the rest of the NFC East.

I’m already done with Gregory. He’s one of those guys who is NEVER going to put it together on the field. He was already too small to have his hands in the dirt. He was a reach in the second round as far as I’m concerned.

  24. granadafan says: Sep 19, 2016 6:42 PM

Likely Jerry had a “success” with the highly combustible Dez Bryant, so he thought he could do the same with the likes of Gregory and Hardy. Maybe he cheaped out on getting 24/7 handlers to keep them out of trouble.

  25. knowledgeoverpower says: Sep 19, 2016 7:08 PM

Just from a football stand point it’s a gamble that in all likelihood will not pay off. Jerry believes in high risk high reward. You’re gonna win some of those but when you lose you lose big and your front office look like a soup sandwich that can’t get it right. They should not have drafted him so high. Hopefully Jaylon Smith will fair better.

  26. robinobishop says: Sep 19, 2016 7:32 PM

If so, It would have come down from on high that he was banned.

  27. wedemboyz88 says: Sep 19, 2016 8:29 PM

Maybe while he was in rehab he learned that he needs to face his past mistakes and take responsibility for them. This could be one of those mistakes he needs to make right and face the consequences for.

Randy gregory, jaylon smith and demarcus lawrence…3 2nd rounders not even on the field. I love these immediate contributors cowboys draft every year.

    ===========================
HE withdrew his own appeal of the extra 10 games, even after he went through rehab. I , also, felt he possibly failed again and knew he would not win the appeal! To me, that was the only scenerio that made sense. Frankly, I’ve had it with him and I am a fanatical ‘Boys fan….I do hope he can get his life straightened out, as I believe in 2nd chances, but he has way more than 2😦

  32. nflgtcfl says: Sep 19, 2016 9:28 PM

Jerry needs Jaylon Smith to come back strong at some point, or else he may get banned from the draft room… by himself.

  33. thegenghiskahn88 says: Sep 20, 2016 2:40 AM

Dude probably lost 20 lbs of muscle in rehab…. and for a dude that can’t keep weight on, he’s not playing at all this season

  34. beanocook says: Sep 25, 2016 10:52 PM

Gregory displayed elite talent (for those that really know football-for the pizza hut masses, he had 0 sacks, move along) in his rookie year, he will be back.
