Panthers place Dean Marlowe on injured reserve

The Panthers have an open spot on their 53-man roster heading into Sunday’s home game against the Vikings.

Safety Dean Marlowe was placed on injured reserve Tuesday and the team has not made a corresponding roster move to fill his spot at this point.

Marlowe didn’t play in the team’s season opener because of a hamstring injury, but was in the lineup for last Sunday’s victory over the 49ers. He played three snaps on defense and 13 snaps on special teams.

While Marlowe is eligible to be the Panthers player designated to return to the active roster, it appears those will be the final snaps he plays in 2016 as the team said his season is over in their announcement of the roster move.

Kurt Coleman, Tre Boston and Colin Jones are now the only safeties on Carolina’s depth chart.
