Patriots list Jimmy Garoppolo as limited in practice

FOXBORO, MA - SEPTEMBER 18: Jimmy Garoppolo #10 of the New England Patriots looks to pass the ball during the first half against the Miami Dolphins at Gillette Stadium on September 18, 2016 in Foxboro, Massachusetts. (Photo by Tim Bradbury/Getty Images) Getty Images

Members of the media who attended the open portion of Patriots practice didn’t see quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo on the field during Tuesday’s session, but the Patriots practice report says otherwise.

The Patriots listed Garoppolo as a limited participant in what was a walkthrough session ahead of their Thursday night matchup with the Texans. Coach Bill Belichick offered no hints about Garoppolo’s status for Thursday earlier in the day, saying that the quarterback could be a game-time decision despite a shoulder injury that knocked him out of last Sunday’s game against the Dolphins.

Wednesday will bring a final injury report for the game and their handling of the situation thus far seems to point to a questionable tag for Garoppolo. Rookie Jacoby Brissett is the only other quarterback on the roster.

Linebacker Dont’a Hightower, who missed Week Two with a knee injury, was listed as limited after sitting out on Monday. Guard Jonathan Cooper, tight end Rob Gronkowski, linebacker Jonathan Freeny and defensive lineman Trey Flowers were also limited while cornerback Eric Rowe was out.

The Texans practiced without tackle Duane Brown and linebacker Brian Cushing, neither of whom is expected to play on Thursday. Wide receiver Braxton Miller missed a second straight day with a hamstring injury and appears on track to join them on the inactive list.

Josh Alper stepping in for Mortenson? I can see the headlines now, Practice-Gate! Jimmy G suspended immediately, Belichick banned for life, Patriots next 10 first round draft choices taken away and spread around to the Jets, Colts, Ravens and Bronco’s. Sound’s impossible you say? Au contraire mon ami. His royal heinous has every last right to do just that because simply put, he can.

I love how ESPN had a video of some gal medical specialist analyzing the AC joint of someone’s shoulder.

The obsession Goodell has created with the media and their creepy coverage of my team is beyond creepy.

When Big Ben had his AC joint issue recently, was ESPN doing stuff like this?

    Think about that:

For one player on one team, they brought in a specialist to analyze why Garropolo can’t play.

    Sick.

It doesn’t matter, as much as i dislike the Patriots Belichick has created an environment where even a third string QB wins. (Which proves the point that there are 5-7 more qb’s that would win super bowls with NE) they simply do not miss brady. Garroppolo going down took Belichick off the hook when brady comes back and dodged a huge controversy. All that coupled with the fact that the NFL stinks as a whole ( not 4 good teams in whole league) makes it entirely possible NE goes 2-0 with a practice squad QB.

Sure it has nothing to do with the 4-9 record vs. the Pats since 1998? Spygate is history, akin to the fact the Steelers roided up during the glory years of the 70’s. Stay in the present because that’s what matters.

    @Trailer parking:

Every single former NFL coach (read that again for your awful reading comprehension in that trailer park), backed Belichick on Spygate.

Not to mention, Tagliabue, who knew there was no real violation other than an argument made over a stupid technicality tied to a tiff between Manboobs and BB and the Jets/Pats.

This means these former NFL coaches spoke CANDIDLY without Sheriff Goebbels hovering.

    Get it?

These former NFL coaches are called primary sources in this case.

Do you know what a primary source is, little low IQ Millennial?

It means that people like Bud Grant, Chuck Knox, Parcells, Johnson and Bill Cowher, all know a lot more abotu the tule and the facts over Roger Goodell.

    It’s just that simple.

Every NFL teams film their games to this very day and none of us care or care to know just exactly what is captured.

The game is played within in the lines. If Spygate the way Goodell lied to the customer, is actually true, NE’s winning’% would have dropped since 2007.

It’s actually gone UP and they still attend a SB every 3 years on average.

You’re just a jealous fan and wish it was your team.

Personally I don’t see Jimmy playing on Thursday, but the undeniable fact is that keeping the Texan’s guess on what kind of participation JG will have, is only to the Pats benefit.
So I don’t see anything being different tomorrow (Limited Particpation) and Thursday, I think he’s be dressed but won’t play even if Brissett gets hurt.

This may honesty be the 2nd 16-0 season for the Patriots in history, atleast the absolute best shot they have.

    Trailerparkking –

o Fact: Video-taping the opposing team from the sideline was NOT ILLEGAL, prior to a league-wide memo set to all teams during the 2006 season by Ray Anderson.
o Fact: The only restriction the Ray Anderson memo made, was regarding the filming from the sideline. NO restrictions were placed on viewing opponent signals with binoculars, lip-reading through binoculars, writing down descriptions of opponent signals.
o Fact: Numerous current, and former, NFL head-coaches, including Jimmy Johnson and Bill Cowher, identified videotaping of opponent signals as common practice within the NFL prior to the Ray Anderson memo in 2006.

If you know the Patriots history, you will realize that their first 3 superbowls were prior to this, but obviously you are unfamiliar with this fact.

Belichick on Garappolo’s availability to play Thursday night: “A player’s personal situation, his health, always comes first, alright? That always comes first, that’s not a football decision. That’s a medical decision. Football decisions are based on what’s best for the football team. That’s what we’ve always done around here. That’s what we’ll do as long as I’m here. That will never change. We’ll always do what’s best for the football team. That’s what it’s all driven by. I’m a football coach. I’m not a doctor. The medical staff is the medical staff. I coach the team; the medical people handle the injuries. They don’t call plays; I don’t do surgery. We’ve got a great deal there. It works out good.”

Fact: The “rule” regarding taping has words to the effect that “you can’t shoot video (blah, blah, blah) … to be used during the game.” Hence, if you’re not using it during the game, the rule does not apply. (To my knowledge it has never been claimed, and certainly not proven, that NE used the video during a game.)

Fact: The longstanding “rule” (see above) was NOT changed during 2006 or 2007. The memo (that’s right, it was ONLY a memo) from NFL HQ stated their clear misinterpretation of it without changing the rule on the books. That’s HQ for ya!!!! Making it up as they go along.

Fact: Kraft (Sports) Productions is real.

Fact: Most people acknowledge it was against the rules for NE to have an unapproved electronic device (camera) on the sidelines during the game – just as it was for PIT’s Roethlisberger and Polamalu (cell phones/cameras).

I have been a fan of NFL football for 50+ years and a Patriots fan since 1974. From the comments I have seen since 2007 about spygate, it is obvious that alot of people don’t know how video taping worked before Goodell was commissioner and now.

As it has been mentioned countless times that taping the opponents sideline was legal before Goodell and is still legal today. What has changed is the location where you can film from. The practice before Goodell was to film the opponents sidelines and to film the clock. Later when they got the game film, they could sync the signals and the game clock with the game film. The big change after Goodell became commissioner was you had to film from a location that was enclosed on all sides with a roof overhead. Although it was never stated I presume it was so you couldn’t film the game clock.

The Patriots were found guilty by Goodell of violating the standards set out in the Games Operations Manual concering video taping. Although the filming was done in full view of everyone attending the game it was done from the sidelines which was no longer allowed.

As we all know the Patriots were severly punished, the tapes destroyed and the Patriots went on to have a perfect regular season, their only loss in the SB.

Dec 18th, 1976. After beating the Raiders 48-17 at home in that year, the Patriots went to Oakland for a divisional playoff game.

With the Patriots leading 21-17 the Raiders had a 3rd and 18 from their own 28 yard line. Stabler threw an incomplete pass effectively ending the Oakland chances to win the game. But wait… a terrible phantom roughing the passer call and Oakland had another chance. They won it. A complete joke. Oakland went on to win the Super Bowl and the Patriots suffered nearly 20 years of mediocrity.

That’s when my family was endeared to the Patriots. When they were jobbed by Oakland, and when the Tuck Rule happened in 2001 it was the best payback ever.

ranlgon – just posted an excellent summary of spygate.

One more fact that shows that Goodell was looking to use that 2007 incident as an excuse to help establish league parity.

The Patriots had won the Superbowls in 2001, 2003 and 2004. So Goodell created the following punishment for the Patriots:

In a strange punishment that was clearly aimed at creating league parity Roger Goodell made the penalty contingent by punishing The Patriots based on future success.

Instead of selecting a punishment that Roger Goodell felt was fair, he instead created a contingent punishment that would punish the Patriots based on their success in the 2007/2008 season.

Because the Patriots made the playoffs they were deprived of their 1st round pick in the 2008 draft.

  56. tedmurph says: Sep 20, 2016 7:39 PM

No Patriots employee was ejected from Lambeau field in 2006, even though they were bitter about the 35-0 shellacking and did hurl unsubstantiated accusations. Estrella was the guy Mangini ratted out at the Jets game. Facts=0. This is what happens when something turns into an urban legend. Don’t put any wet puppies in the…never mind.

Hate to disappoint you clowns but the author has already admitted that his book was a complete fabrication and there is was absolutely no evidence that any of the “theories” in that book were really true. He also said the Patriots are a great team, period.

Aww. Poor Patriot Hater🙂 Its like you found out Santa wasn’t real.🙂

And the Pats employee was kicked out of lambaeu field a season before spygate which was 2007. It happened in November 2006. The Employee’s name was Matt Estrella. Read for yourselves. See what I mean?

There are a few Patriots fans out there. Not just Redsox fans.

Believe it or not some Pats “fans” will not like this news. They were actually hoping the Patriots lose against Texans just so they can say you see, you can’t play just anyone at QB and win. Can you believe that?

    ————-
What nobody can believe is that you are a Pats fan. Get a new schtick. And why do you think Pats fans care whether or not anyone can come into the system and succeed? All that proves is that BB is the greatest coach ever and when Brady retires the Pats dominance will continue. Meanwhile, your Jets will suffer untold decades of mediocrity.

Once again Patriots fans in complete denial as always,
Sugar Bear Hamilton smashed Stabler in the head, whether unintentional or not, it was roughing the passer, the refs got the call right, your team choked in the end and you lost, end of story.

And remember even had the Pats won, there was no way they would have beaten the Steelers the next week anyway.

Every team loses heartbreakers, only Pats fans cry conspiracy theory on every important loss.🙂

If he can’t go at all, Garoppolo knows that his 4-game “audition for the rest of the league” window is going to shut.

He’ll probably do and say anything to be out there. Some team will throw ridiculous money at him to be their starting QB next year and he hasn’t really proven his worth yet, much less prove he can stay on the field. Brissett might be able to change the pecking order as to who they keep.

My guess is that they keep Brissett backing up Brady until Brady’s skill level falls enough that a change can be made, and they let Garoppolo walk after this season because they won’t match the money from some desperate team looking to get relevant and overpay for him.

  65. thegreatgabbert says: Sep 20, 2016 8:40 PM

Rest of the league lists Garoppolo as “limited” during games.

You weren’t born back then of course so it’s understandable you wouldn’t know what you’re talking about.

I almost forgot! 31-24.🙂 If we’re being completely honest, the game really wasn’t that close, you got WHOOPED by our 2nd and 3rd string QB. LOL. How’s the view from the AFC East basement?🙂 We wouldn’t know, it’s been so long…

Some say Belichick can’t win without Brady; some say vice versa.

No matter, the fact that New England has the greatest QB AND greatest coach/gm in history has been a hell of a ride and it ain’t over yet.

  71. cadreamer1969 says: Sep 20, 2016 9:36 PM

The reason for the injury report is the NFL caters to the gamblers. Same reason the NFL stops the flow of the game so much with replay. Players have said they are routinely told weekly about the injury report of their opponents so they can test the injured players.

If you hung around one more year, you would have seen the Cinderella-story 1985 team win 3 straight road games (the first team to ever do it) and get play in the 1st of the 8 Super Bowls they have been to.

    —————————————————–

Ted Johnson, who won 3 SB’s with Belichick and who now does radio in Houston, was asked about that press conference and flat out said that Belichick is spouting out BS. He said that Belichick has total control over every single aspect of the medical staff and status of every player (because he did it with Johnson as well) and that he’s just trying to keep the Texans guessing, and of course since O’Brien, Crennel, and Vrabel all have worked with him they all know it’s BS as well.

Owned by the 3rd string? Briskett barely did anything. You should know that the Pats D started to give up big plays in the 2nd half, I would call that being owned.
