Browns add Scooby Wright to practice squad, at his same pay

Cut Tuesday by the Browns, rookie linebacker Scooby Wright has returned to the team in a different capacity — but at the same rate of pay.

Per a league source, the seventh-round pick passed through waivers and signed with the team’s practice squad. The Browns will pay him $26,470 per week. That’s precisely what he was earning as a member of the active roster.

Injuries forced the Browns to clear a spot on the 53-man roster. Wright can be returned to the active roster at any time. Likewise, another team could offer him a spot on its active roster.

For now, though, Wright will keep getting paid as if he’s still a full-fledged member of the team.

Probably means he is going to be that 54th player that goes through waivers 5 times a year. Pay him the extra peanuts to go with the wink nod.

Any other team would have to pay him the same amount, right? That would keep some teams from adding him.

That equates to $423,520, the rookie minimum is $450K.
That wouldn’t even keep the Chargers from signing him
