Patriots say Garoppolo doubtful, Gronkowski questionable

The Patriots listed quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo as doubtful on their final injury report ahead of Thursday’s game vs. the Texans.

That means rookie Jacoby Brissett is likely the team’s starter — and only healthy quarterback — against the Texans. Wide receiver Julian Edelman, a college quarterback, is probably the team’s emergency option.

The Patriots listed Garoppolo as a limited participant Wednesday for the second straight day. He suffered a shoulder injury that forced him out of last week’s win over the Dolphins.

Gronkowski, who’s missed the team’s first two games with a hamstring injury, is one of six players the Patriots listed as questionable. Gronkowski was a limited practice participant all week.

The other Patriots listed as questionable linebacker Dont’a Hightower (knee), cornerback Eric Rowe (ankle), guard Jonathan Cooper (foot), linebacker Jonathan Freeny (shoulder) and defensive lineman Trey Flowers (shoulder).

The Texans previously announced wide receiver Braxton Miller, linebacker Brian Cushing and offensive tackle Duane Brown would miss the game.

They should list a couple guys a “probable” just to mess with the league.

It doesn’t matter, the Patriots will be 3-0 after Thursday’s game.

Anyone actually remember the last time Gronk was NOT on the injury report? Guy has turned into glass last couple years

I’m giddy about the thought of Edelman having to play QB.

They should bring in TEBOW … only so that the press leaves the rookie QB alone.

A fan knocking Gronk says more about the fan than it does Gronkowski.

Dont worry pats fans, the texans found a way to lose to a 40 yr old sick qb last year, so i would not be surprised to see this one slip by. Texans fan here.

Before the season started the Texans were one of the 2 teams most Pats fans were concerned about losing to with Brady out. Starting a 3rd string rookie QB against that D and throwing in the other injuries hasn’t improved my outlook any. Houston isn’t Miami, there’s very legit cause for concern here among the Pats faithful.

Patriots release mandatory injury report prior to their 3rd game of the 2016 season while the NFL fails to release the report of the PSI information collected during the 2015 season.

Brady forced to watch the 3rd game of the 2016 season from his couch while the NFL still refuses to publically release the PSI information collected during the 2015 season.

Pats will be 2-2 before the Shady one returns then beat Cleveland before losing to Cincy and Pitt.🙂

Given that Brady is 0-1 against Osweiler, this game could have gone either way even with Brady starting. What we know for sure is whoever plays QB for the Patriots this Thursday will be playing in the best system in NFL and coached by the best coach in NFL.

Another football season where Dolphin fans only bragging comes from denying science while supporting the Brady suspension.

  16. factpurveyor says: Sep 21, 2016 6:19 PM

Silly Dolphin fan must believe that Joe Montana, and Brett Favre had zero skills as quarterbacks and were system QB’s because their successors also did well.

The Patriots have averaged over 12 wins per season since 2001 The Dolphins last won 12 games in a season in 1990.

Texans have very strong ties to the Pats – O’B, Romeo, Izzo, Vrabel, and Big Vince.

I want to see the Texans succeed (except when they play the Pats) and I want to see them STOMP the Colts both when they play and in the standings.

And if the Pats do lose, I won’t feel as bad as I would if they lost to the Broncos, Colts, Steelers, Ravens, or divisional opponents.

Oh chipster, we do so enjoy your predictions. Before the season started you had them at 0-4 for those 4 games. After the AZ game you had them at 1-3 and losing to Miami 24-13. Now your at 2-2 and the only surprise in the rest is you don’t see them getting blown out by the Browns.

Not sure why this question was downvoted, if Edelman gets injured, the Pats will have zero depth at QB…presuming that Garoppolo doesn’t get medical clearance.

I think if they can’t get Garoppolo in they will push to have Gronk on the field to keep the win.

The coach plays to win and he believes that football players should play football.
Just imaging the wrong message that he would send if he encouraged players think that they should save themselves for the next game.

just think for a second and ask yourself what one qb has to do with the other in a game. the fact that Brady pretty much owned Peyton is more team than Tom.

and stop listening to ESPN and others who think that has any relevance. they’re just pot stirrers

What is the estimated number of cheating allegations uttered when the Pat’s go 3-0 with a rookie QB tomorrow night? The over and under is set at 99…

The Patriots success must drive the haters crazy but what else is new…?

With a full complement of receivers and TE’s, Brissett can probably move them enough to give Gostkowski a workout. Assuming he hits all his FG’s, if Brissett can manage a TD in each half, they’ll be in good shape.

    Pats 26-18.

  31. factpurveyor says: Sep 21, 2016 8:27 PM

Would be really funny if the Patriots beat them badly. Like by 10 points or more with a 3rd string QB.

  32. gofor2with3pointlead says: Sep 21, 2016 9:05 PM

What’s even funnier iso at least for the next two weeks, NE is in the same boat as Cleveland at QB. If that ain’t karma, it’s a damn good joke.

Well I wish Brady helped the team to own Peyton in more AFCC games. We could have had at least two more SB titles. As a Patriots fan I have respect for Osweiler. The kid flat out outplayed Brady in primetime in the snow. He threw passes with plenty of zip, he made critical plays, and the lights weren’t too bright for him.

Thought some clown in the media said the Pats were forcing Jimmy G to play. It’s going to be hilarious when Edelman stays at wr and someone else plays QB if the starter gets hurt. A player that has played QB in the last two years.
