Duane Brown raises fist during anthem

BALTIMORE, MD - OCTOBER 16: Offensive lineman Wade Smith #74 and Duane Brown #76 of the Houston Texans look on from the bench during the closing moments of the Texans 29-14 loss to the Baltimore Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium on October 16, 2011 in Baltimore, Maryland. Texans offensive tackle Duane Brown raised his fist during the national anthem before Thursday night’s Texans-Patriots game.

Players across the league have made similar gestures early this season in protest of social inequalities and police brutality. Multiple Eagles players did the same before their game last Monday night in Chicago.

The CBS broadcast showed Brown with his right fist raised as it came back from a first quarter commercial. It wasn’t shown live.

Brown, a three-time Pro Bowler, is inactive Thursday night. He’s still recovering from a quad injury he suffered in Week 17 last season.

He’s not playing so had to get some attention somehow. Glad he made the trip to sit on the bench and get his name in the paper.

When I saw him do this, it immediately opened my eyes to the cause he is championing…
…if only I knew what was he was raising awareness to … I think he was protesting against the act of sitting down during the anthem, but I’m not sure… Oh well.
