Some seats are getting very warm after two weeks

ORCHARD PARK, NY - SEPTEMBER 15: Head Coach Rex Ryan of the Buffalo Bills of the New York Jets talks to a player before the game against the New York Jets at New Era Field on September 15, 2016 in Orchard Park, New York. (Photo by Brett Carlsen/Getty Images) Getty Images

When the 2016 NFL season ends, some coaches will be fired. It’s an inevitable reality in a league that will feature for every good team, a bad team.

The bad teams want to become good teams, and they often start the process of becoming good teams by hiring new coaches. That can’t happen until they fire the coaches they have.

So who’s on the hot seat after only two weeks? It’s a subject that was covered on Thursday’s PFT Live on NBC Sports Radio and NBCSN.

Two specific divisions are represented very well, with two coaches each on the list.

I dont think there is any doubt Rex Ryan is gone Monday after the prison beating the Cards are going to give the Bills. Its not going to be pretty.

Call me crazy, but I think Mike McCarthy might be on that list at the end of the year….

SPOILER ALERT: Jeff Fisher is not among the Top 5.

After reading this article Ryan Grigson soiled himself……again….

Gee, I wonder if one of those coaches is Rex Ryan?

I’m a Packers fan and hope you’re right. They have been a very good team through the years in spite of him. It’d probably take him months – maybe a year – to become aware that he was fired and needed to make a change.

I hope the idiot who hired Wrecks hangs on to him, we need a circus to laugh at.

Vikings fan: Seriously. Shut up. You have NO IDEA what you are talking about. McCarthy’s teams have made the playoffs 7 straight years. He’s won a super bowl.

This is example A of why Packers fans can’t stand your fan base. You don’t know football and yet you still spew your idiotic drool all over the boards.

3 years of ugly football coupled with huge payouts to free agents tripled with an 0-2 start to a season promised to be different puts Gus Bradley on his way out. Good news is his replacement will have a lot to start with. How are those huge contracts to Julius Thomas and Malik Jackson looking? Denver seems to be fine without them despite predictions of doom and gloom.

  10. 3xapple says: Sep 22, 2016 4:37 PM

I realize he just got renewed, but I could easily see Pagano (and Grigson) on this list. Another year, more platitudes, same results. Can’t run, can’t stop the run, can’t defend the pass. Yet another 0-2 start. Same thing every year. Shame we didn’t keep coach Arians.

  11. Purple People Eaters says: Sep 22, 2016 4:44 PM

    Sheesh, packer fans. Defensive much.

Separately, I just listened, I am a little surprised Mike has McCarthy on the list, but not Fisher!

  12. cosmoman11 says: Sep 22, 2016 4:50 PM

The problem the Bills have is who takes over for the rest of the year. Do they realize they focused on the wrong side of the line of scrimmage last week and bring Roman back?

  13. numba1wiscosportsfan says: Sep 22, 2016 4:53 PM

Big PACK guy here. Vike’s fans got it right. MacArthur needs to go. Wish we had a great coach like Zimmer, still can’t believe no other teams took him over the years. Good on you Vike’s. Hope this isn’t the changeing of the guard, but it might be… GO PACK!!

What was that line in Top Gun about one’s mouth writing checks one’s body can’t cash? That probably describes Rex Ryan. He’s a character so it does make the NFL a bit more interesting. However, as Jerry Glanville famously said, the NFL stands for not for long when you do your job like Rex has. I can’t see him surviving the season.

I also have a hard time believing Gus Bradley will make it through the first few months of the season. They spent a ton of money on Malik Jackson and that defense is still horrendous. Their offense is inept too. In the preseason they were talking about contending for a playoff spot. The only thing they’ll contend for now is the first pick in the draft.

Rex, Gus, McCarthy, Fisher, Pagano/Grigson will vanish this year.

Since Day 1 when Carolina made Fox the HC I’ve said he is not HC material….dude has managed very nice paydays blowing smoke up his employer’s butts…as much as I can’t stand horse face Elway he did figure this guy out rather quickly…..

  17. rvz22 says: Sep 22, 2016 5:55 PM

Watched Fox in Denver while he was here. I think he probably makes a decent defensive coordinator but he’s awful as a head coach. I was so disappointed the Bears made him the HC and Fox has been everything I thought he would be. I hope the Bears get rid of him and letting Pace go probably would be a nice benefit. Maybe then Bears can hopefully start rebuilding correctly.

  18. refshavegottogo says: Sep 22, 2016 6:10 PM

I think Rex will last at least until the Bills play the Patriots. If they beat the Pats it will buy him a few more weeks. If they lose to the pats he won’t see Monday.

  19. wallyspo says: Sep 22, 2016 7:26 PM

I think Pace would do just fine in a situation where he can make his own decisions as to who his HC is. Fox was not ever his #1 choice to hire as Bears HC. He needs to let Fox go ASAP and get started fresh this offseason making his own personnel decisions without ownership telling him to hire someone.

  20. limakey says: Sep 22, 2016 7:47 PM

Rex will finish the year. I think Doug will get fired before Rex does. It seems fairly obvious that Rex and Doug aren’t even carrying the same book let alone be on the same page. Doug has had since 2010 to change the culture in Buffalo, he has had his time. He should never be forgiven for EJ Manual.

  21. slowdown05 says: Sep 22, 2016 8:03 PM

If GB drops McCarth, there will be a number of teams lining up to hire him as quickly as possible. I have been a Packers fan all my life and just do not understand the level of vitriol other Packers fans levee against him. They seem to forget that other teams might be more talented than the Pack and are trying to win as well. With that said, it would be a huge mistake to let McCarthy go.

  22. randalpnaditch says: Sep 22, 2016 8:54 PM

As wel there should be teams who would want to pick up McCarthy. But sometimes a team just needs a change. He is a good coach and has done great things for the pack. After a certain number of years in a division you become too predictable. Maybe we just need a new offensive coordinator, I don’t know. I just know the play calling has become vanilla and very predictable.

Look, everyone gets that you’re mad about losing your super bowl game to the Vikings.

But to blame others than yourself is just the Packer way and it’s an example as to why not only the Vikings but the entire NFL fanbase can’t stand you guys.

Get mad at Rodgers, Lacy, McCarthy…and that guy that sold you packers stock.

Bears fans need to let the McCaskeys go by not showing up at games. this Sunday will prove very little about Fox other than the team is run by checkbook. Bennett played well last night but like Marshall and Forte, not in a Bears uniform.

Your misguided comment is the paradigm of why Viking fans are regularly dismissed around the league. First of all, what “blame” are you talking about? You’re mistaking being glib for being intelligent.

Secondly, McCarthy has the second-highest career winning percentage in the league, after Belichick. He is a proven, consistent winner. Has he won 5 Super Bowls? Nope. But I, for one, find winning, and fielding a consistent contender year in and year out to be highly preferable to the up-and-down misfires that populate the league in such high numbers.

You’re entitled to your opinion, as all bloggers are. But don’t expect those of us who know football to think you’re even remotely close to the truth.

I am a lifelong Packer fan who vividly remembers the dark years of that team and I do not understand the growing hatred of McCarthy I really don’t. He has multiple division titles, won a Super Bowl, been to other championship games, and been to the playoffs seven straight years.

I can promise you one thing fellow Packer fans if you want him out he will be hired fast because other teams would love to have him. And who would you rather have?

And my other thought is how in gods green earth is Jeff Fisher not even mentioned? Man that guy must be an expert of taking compromising photos or knows where the bodies are buried.

  27. johnnyblood24 says: Sep 23, 2016 9:09 AM

I like how all of the armchair GMs are ready to drop the axe on their head coach but none of them offer up any suggestions on who to bring in next.

PS: McCarthy’s seat isn’t even lukewarm.

Any hope of being taken seriously is out the window when you think Mike McCarthy is in any jeopardy of losing his job. Either you forget the Packers have no owner and a GM and President who are solidly behind him, or you’re an idiot. Either way, what a waste of time.

Secondly, as someone who lives amongst many Packer fans, I can’t tell you how many times you call for Capers head when the D has a bad game, then touts your defense as fantastic. When McCarthy doesn’t go for a FG, he is terrible. Then you turn around going over his resume.

I’d say its time to get over yourself. Just because GB has had success, does not mean packer fans know anything about football. That’s the biggest lie you tell yourselves. “We cheer for a successful team, therefore we are elite football minds.”

    SkoLOL.

“How are those huge contracts to Julius Thomas and Malik Jackson looking?”

Good so far. Julius Thomas had 46 catches, 455 yards, and 5 touchdowns last season despite missing the first half of the year with a broken hand. Through two weeks this year, he’s on pace for over 1000 yards receiving and 8 touchdowns. Malik Jackson has played well the first two weeks by getting consistent pressure up the middle. Unfortunately, he was benched for the second half at San Diego because he was man enough to criticize Gus Bradley and defensive coordinator Todd Wash’s poor playing calling. If Denver has any linebackers or defensivebacks they’d like to send to Jacksonville, we’ll gladly take them too.

  33. crownofthehelmet says: Sep 23, 2016 1:41 PM

No Marvin Lewis on this list? Maybe he needs to go 0 for 26 in the playoffs.

  34. revelation123 says: Sep 23, 2016 7:15 PM

McCarthy’s job is one of the safest in the NFL. He’s 2nd in wins to Belichick and the team has made the playoffs 7 years in a row.

Yeah, that really needs to change…not.
