The Houston Texans scored zero points against the New England Patriots on Thursday night, which tends to make it somewhat challenging to win a football game.
The Texans lost 27-0 to the Patriots and third-string rookie quarterback Jacoby Brissett.
Osweiler says the blame is one him for the loss. The Texans didn’t score any points and - as the quarterback - that’s on him.
“I think any time an offense struggles to develop a rhythm, struggles scoring points, the first thing you have to examine is the quarterback,” Osweiler said, via Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle. “I’ll take the blame for this one. Anytime a team doesn’t score points, it’s on me.
“I’ll examine the tape very closely. I’ll become a better quarterback from this experience. Bottom line: I needed to play better to allow our team to have an opportunity to try to win the ballgame.”
Osweiler completed 24 of 41 passes for 196 yards with an interception in the loss. He didn’t get the benefit of three turnovers in opponent territory like Brissett did. However, the Texans didn’t cross midfield until late in the third quarter.
“They didn’t do anything we weren’t expecting. Bottom line: I need to play better so I can give this team an opportunity to win ballgames like this,” Osweiler said.
Osweiler has thrown four interceptions in three games with only three touchdowns and is completing under 60 percent of his passes.
